Not to promote RC to head coach, but you gotta admit, those were some fun times -

1) Bucky as wide receiver for a TD during Holiday Bowl
2) Reggie's TD pass to end halftime against OU
3) Anytime GHT and Rodney Thomas were in the backfield at the same time
4) Peter Gardere interception for a TD to start of the tu game at Kyle Field (Buckley, I believe)
5) The hook and lateral that we almost completed against ND in the Cotton Bowl.

* Aaron Wallace sack on Andre Ware then lifting Ware's helmet into the air ... gladiator style.

* Darren Lewis halfback pass to the TE in the upset of #7 LSU in RCs first game.

* Screen to 'lectric Leeland

* Fake spike and then Lance Pavlas going deep to Percy Waddle right at the end of the 3rd quarter to give the Ags a 14-10 lead over the sips in 1989.

* Leeland returning kicks and Aaron Glenn on punt returns

we had such a fun team between 1989 - 1993 with RC as head coach, Bob Davie as DC, and Bob Toledo as OC.

IMHO, RC's biggest problem was the assistant coaching roller coaster that began in 1994.

So many of us, like myself, are fond of RC because we were around when he was hired and was here at his peak. As I said, between 1989 - 1993 this was a fun team. The defense was great, and the offense, while run oriented, was still creative and fun. This was all while we had the same OC and DC ... Bob and Bob. After the 1993 season, Davie, as we all know, left to go to Notre Dame and Bob Toledo was fired. This, IMHO began our slide as we began changing assistant coaches almost every years. In 1994 Tuberville was here as DC and we had a new OC as well, then they both left and we had new coordinators in 1995. This began to play havoc on the kids as they had to learn a new system every year of two.

As for walkanne's comments, it is true that RC lost big games ... at least bowl games ... but he also won a few as well. No coach wins them all. Pick a coach and we can find alot of "big game" losses. From Dr. Tom who was owned by Barry Switer to Switer who was owned by Miami to Mack Brown who has choked on many a RRS game to Stoops that has losses in bowls since 2002 as well as games like CU this year. RC, in some ways was the opposite of Jackie ... he could beat LSU but often lsot the bowl. Jackie never beat LSU but won 2 of 3 Cotton's.

The only offensive plays I remember were:

1st & 10: Fullback dive
2nd & 8: Tailback off tackle
3rd & 5: 4-yard flare pass
4th & 1: Punt

"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers. In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I am readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I will, in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials - after the fact."

I always enjoyed the streak route over the top of the D because it took so long to set up. We'd run up the gut three times and punt. Several 1-2-3 kicks later, when the safeties cheated up enough, we'd throw over the top, usually for six.

We beat Okie Lite with that play over and over again. Brandon Stewart beat R.W. McQuarters with that several times.

Another favorite is Toombs one the loose, carrying defenders down the field (OU and NU).

Looking back, I'd have to say pretty much any & every play / game under RC. For all of his shortcomings / conservative play-calling, he never got us beat 77-0 (and I never saw the team quit under him).

I enjoyed the first play of his head coaching career.

In the opening kickoff, against LSU, we ran it back for a TOUCHDOWN.

RC FunFact: He coached Aggies through a staggering 40% of all wins attributable to Texas A&M over 108 years of football.

I would vomit in my mouth every time I saw that d@*n Sirr Parker motion to slot play because good defenses seemingly always stopped both the run & pass plays out of that set...

that is except for K-State. I think that was one of the most exciting wins I can recall where so much was on the line.

Here ya go Slim:

Larry Horton taking it the distance in RC's first games as (officially ... yes I remember TCU in 88) head coach

Leeland's KO return against tu in 1993. We were off to a slow start on a cold night. Down 6-0 and they made the mistake of kicking to him.

Glenn's INT return for a 95-yard TD in Austin in 1992.

Brandon Mitchell's INT return for a TD in Austin in 1994.

The 32-yard sack against BYU.

The Hit.

WC 3 sacks in a row on Nebraska, the last for a fumble and touchdown... I was on the bleachers & it happened right in front of me. The LOUDEST I have ever heard Kyle, got goosebumps.
