I started my research of American WWII bombing missions to targets in Poland in late 1990s. My initial research focused on documenting all missions to targets which were in Polish territory after 1945. The focus then shifted gradually towards listing and documenting all USAAF losses. The Warsaw-based NGO "KARTA" reached out to me in 2001, as I was already considered a subject matter expert on WWII US losses over Poland. KARTA was contracted by the US government agency (DPMO - Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office, merged in 2015 into DPAA - Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency) to do archival search for any information about American citizens missing in Poland from WWII.

POW found decades later. The German pics are kind of amazing. I had no idea that type of thing would happen for an enemy flyer.
