Watched the first two episodes this weekend. I am surprised how much the film hews to real history even if it plays up the bloodiest aspects of the story. It is from the producer of the Revenant so I should not be surprised at the grim and bloody nature of the story.
It is set in the Utah territory just before the civil war with the LDS Nauvoo Legion setting up the the Mountain Meadows Massacre using the Paiute tribe to do most of the killing .
Most of it revolves around Fort Bridger in Wyoming as well, an authentic historic site.
The Shoshone Chief Winter Bird in episode 2 is based on a real life character as well.
Check it out if you want a beautifully filmed, quasi-historical western yarn.
