Howdy!

In a couple weeks I am driving to a conference and will have about twenty hours or so of windshield time. What are some good history podcasts that I could download for this ride?

I am caught up with all of Dan Carlin's shows.

The WW II Podcast by Angus Wallace
New History of Old Texas by Brandon Seale

Bolelli does multi-episode topics across almost all historical topics.....he's the most similar to Carlin's format of this group.....his passion/specialty is the Plains Indians.....you do have to get used to his Italian accent but you do get some indearing sayings out of it

Wallace does one episode per topic and range across all things WW II

Seale does multi-episode seasons with each season covering a topic on Texas history

Abridged Presidential Histories covers each president, in order, in an hour or less. 4.8 stars on 216 apple podcast reviews.

Ancient Warfare podcast. The episodes are typically 15 minutes or so, therefore great for shorter commutes. They focus on very specific questions surrounding ancient battles, war fighting gear, techniques, etc.. I find out a lot of new tidbits that are not widely covered.

I've listened to some of Wise about Texas and found it interesting.

Ken Wise who does "Wise about Texas" is an Aggie. He also is an Appellate Court Judge.

Highly agree. Also both have a good sense of humor too.

Add in tons of episodes already so would take you a loong time to catch up.

I like Wild West Extravaganza. Has some language…so not for kids.

I enjoy both of these as well. My wife has started listening to "The Rest Is History" which is a bit surprising because she has just started getting more interested in history.

Another one I enjoy that is sort of historyish is School of War with Aaron MacLean. The focus is on modern U.S. strategy focusing on Chyna but many of the guests are historians.

This series on YouTube is quite good;

American History Tellers by a non-Senator guy named Lindsay Graham are good reads.

They bounce all over different topics from the Revolutionary War to the Cold War to the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1793 to Bleeding Kanas.

The history of the Americans by Jack henneman. Starts with pre Columbia America, is currently in the 1600's

The Rest is History podcast recently released multi-episode series on the murder of Franz Ferdinand and the resulting runup to the start of WW1 (separate series, but immediately following the first). They also have a new eight part series on the French Revolution.

I just finished listening to the first two above and they are excellent. Highly recommend.

Edit to add: this was a miserable place to be at sea. Terrifying to think about. Had to be towed halfway across the Atlantic just to get ready to go finally after being left adrift and found by a battleship. What a disaster.

I haven't listened in a good while but I am about 110 episodes in. The first 30 plus episodes are covering the issues leading up to the war and covering the backgrounds of some of the principal players leading up to Fort Sumter. The episodes vary in length but generally around +/- 30 minutes. They make book recommendations in each episode for further reading around the events and characters discussed. I have bought a few of those (mostly used) but haven't read them yet.

It's an ongoing series, the latest episode is #478, covering Grant's Spring 1984 campaign. Obviously there will be quite a few more episodes coming. It's been so long since I listened to them, I was thinking of restarting the series and referencing the relevant sections of the books in parallel along the way.

Rich and Tracy have a website for the podcast and it includes the list of book recommendations, podcast links for each episode and other resources.
