I visited Alcatraz last week while on Vacation to California. It was one of my favorite tours I have ever done. In the gift shop, there were so many books on Alcatraz but I noticed that most of them cost a lot less on Amazon than in the gift shop. I have been trying to figure out the best books to read on Alcatraz because I am interested in learning more about it. "Escape from Alcatraz: The True Crime Classic" was one of the more advertised books in the gift shop. Can anyone tell me some of the good books they have read?

I learned quite a bit about the prison and escapes while on the island. I would like a book that would talk more about the first military side of the island before becoming a prison and maybe on the legislative side of instating it as a maximum security prison.
