I believe that's a gunner position. Plexiglass blister for the gunner, right behind the bomb bay. He controls severl guns remotely from that position. Obviously the other seats are for paying passengers.

For what it's worth, my father (Class of '30) was called to active duty in April '41, and soon assigned to the B-29 project as a electrical engineer. He later deployed to Guam as executive officer of the 501 Bomb Group (B-29).
