We have discussed the new German war movie. Now, I will start a discussion of a REAL war movie, "The Hornets Nest". It is documentary made by an embedded ABC News Reporter and his videographer son when they were attached to Cougar Company, 1st Brigade, 327th Inf, 101st Airborne while conducting Operation Stong Eagle III in the village of Barawolo Kalay along the PAK/Afghan Border in Kunar Province.

My adult son and his friends (same age as the soldiers in the movie) went to see it this weekend and left with tears in their eyes.

I don't need to see it. I saw the results first hand. I will never forget that first day and those that followed.

I don't even deserve to be thanked. I am a DoD civilian, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I build schools, police stations and roads for the PRTS. I was at Abad when this operation went down. It is about five miles from it. All of the WIA were brought to the FST at Abad. I was standing in the FST when they bought the first ones in. They bought 27 of them in.

I very much want to see this. A guy who was a sort of mentor to me when I was a fresh E-3 left this unit 9 months before the events featured in the film. It was supposed to be playing in Houston this past Friday but I was unable to find any times listed.

We can go ahead and thank you Cougar, because the civil affairs people make a difference. In Iraq, B.Blauser's charity actually helped so much it led to more folks giving us tips to hunt down insurgents.

A very good friend of mine was a Platoon Sgt. in B Co. for operations Strong Eagle I and II. Two of his team leaders were promoted and moved into squad leader positions in C Co. for this operation. They are both in the movie.

He wasn't present because he was injured just prior to this operation and lost his left leg bellow the knee.

I hope it makes it to the theater here in B/CS.
