June 14, 1958...Texas Governor Price Daniel broke a glass bottle of Gulf of Mexico salt water over the hull and officially commissioned a Corsicana home built submarine, The Turtle II, into the Texas Navy.
WWII vet - local welder and plumbing inspector Ray Bass (Corsicana sub builder and operator) was also commissioned by Governor Daniel as an Admiral in the Texas Navy.

Yea, it really worked.
Remnants of the sub still in possession of Jay Bass (son of Ray) 710 Ferguson Drive, Corsicana, Texas.
