Manchester's highly anticipated and long awaited last volume of his Winston Churchill "Last Lion" trilogy has just been released. 25 years after volume 2. It was finished by Paul Reid.

Anybody read it yet? First two volumes compared favorably with McCullcogh's or Caro's best work imho.

Caro was strong in the first, good in the second and betrayed his agenda in the third.

Just downloaded and started Volume 1 figured with last book out would start. Anybody with thoughts on series as whole. Do love McCullough's Rome series.

Anybody read a Churchill biography? Or a book authored by himself, such as "History of the English Speaking Peoples", "My Young Life" or "The Malakand Field Force" or the six volumes treating WWII? Or any of the myriad others, biography or autobiography? Not trying to qualify as an AH and in understanding that the rote of civilization revolves ever faster, best of luck to all of us. To the extent we regard "us" and "ours" we should necessarily regard Winston.

I recommend Winston Churchill's one and only novel. It's called "Savrola."

No, but I will. I did not *know* that was finally out. Good to hear. I do have "History of the English Speaking peoples." Great time capsule on attitudes.

Well just finished Vol I. Expect I'll read II and III within next year or so. Not as enjoyable a read as Colleen's "First Man of Rome" series, but difference between well researched actual biography and a well researched historical fiction. Really good view of history from late 19th century to early 20th in addition to look at very interesting man.

That he not only saw but lived and not only lived but witnessed and not only witnessed but created the reality of four, counting tomorrow, generations of our planatary life should interest some of you toward what's what. If not, the hell with it. We'll go back to Muhammad's parched desert, and who will know?

Watched a little of the Iron Lady last night on Showtime and thought that neither her or Churchill could ever be elected PM in the UK today. Then I thought, with their views they couldn't even win an election as President in the US today.
