does anyone here know how to get access to the site? i know it is on private property, but there is an erected granite marker there about it. Ive driven down the county road numerous times, but do not know how far off the road it is exactly or quite where it is.

i just want to go look around. early texas history fascinates me and that is an extremely important place.

The location is on an FM off of Texas 21. Check in with the local Chamber of Commerce in Caldwell, or at the Burleson County Court House and get a map that plots the Fort actually. It's about 12-15 miles west of Bryan and about the same east of Caldwell, just off 21.

Here's some good reading on its history AND a map to find it...courtesy of tamu.edu.

I don't have any idea if any of that is correct or accurate - I just love searching to see what I can find on the internets.........

If it's like a lot of historical markers in the state, the marker may not be co-located with the actual historical site. Many times the site is on private land and the marker is on public land.

The Historical marker is along the road side, the actual Fort location is somewhat further East.

The energy company listed on the surveyed map posted by The Sheik is:

Clayton Williams Energy, Inc.

Interestingly enough.

I think (and I could be wrong)....that the Historical Marker is in the roadside park on the right just before you get to Cook's Point coming from Caldwell. It mentions that the actual fort is to the east of the that location.

^^^There's two markers. The original was put up in 1936 (the one nearer to the site), that one you're referring to was later.

Will try to get links after lunch

ya, there isnt any marker off the county road at all. there is one at cooks point, as mentioned before. there is supposed to be the granite stone marker near the site
