After WWII most Third Reich architecture was destroyed or simply withered with time, however, on a hill across the Neckar River from Heidelberg still stands an old Nazi amphitheater.
Supposedly there were to be 1,500 build when only 40 were completed.
In a totally empty setting Bop once sat there on a drab cold day and thought of all the propaganda speeches, performances, lighting, music and shouts of the 1930's.
Alone it was somewhat chilling and surreal to connect to those times in such a setting.

If interested use search engine for: Heidelberg Thingstatte or Thingspiele.

Althought it seems to be a Nazi History web site there is also a very interesting and detailed narrative as to those amphitheaters and their role in the Third Reich.

Never saw that in Heidelberg, though that would be interesting.

The best place to go to visit these places first hand is Nuremberg. I've been to the following places:

This is in the courtyard of a memorial to World War I victims. That's Hitler, Himmler, and I think Goering, doing the saluting to the dead. The photo is taken from atop the memorial. The area behind them, where all the troops are assembled, is a big field (or it was in 1992, when I was last there). The platforms on the hill in the background have been destroyed.

Here's basically the same are, looking the other way, towards the WWI memorial:

Here's the memorial as it looks today. (Notice the square paving areas).

From the same Rally is this place, the Zeppelinfeld:

And here it is, closer up:

In this photo, Hitler is in his car, but usually, he was up in the podium above the swastika. I've got a photo of me there, I think, giving the bird.

Here it is from the left side:

Here's that site as it looks today. Part of it is used for an auto racing track, and the fields used to be baseball, soccer and football fields for the American garrison, but I'm not sure what they have there now. By the way, if you've ever seen the footage at the end of the war where they blow up the giant swastika, that was there at the Zeppelinfeld.

And here's the old Kongresshalle, which was never completed. The center of the building is roofless and serves as the Nuremberg city impound lot. There are finished rooms inside the building. In 1992, I saw Pearl Jam play in one of them:

There's more here on the Reichsparteigelaende:

The Waldbuhne in Berlin (still a popular concert venue) is also of Nazi origin...designed by Goebbels.

Was in Nuremberg last winter and it was easily one of my favorite cities in Germany. Zeppelinfeld is used as general public space (with KFC across the street). Weather was warm for that time of year, so people were picnicking, strolling, playing soccer, etc. Kongresshalle houses a must visit museum on one end and the city orchestra on the other.

The U shaped stadium base at the bottom of the ski jump at 1936 Garmisch/Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany has (had) some architectural traits from The Third Reich period.

Google Earth is your friend. Here is the Reichsparteigelaende mentioned in my post abover. All your favorite sites from that gaudy documentary, Triumph of the Will:

Since I lived in Nuremberg for 6 weeks, I know the town pretty thoroughly. This is a famous sequence of photos of Hitler reviewing troops. He's directly across from a bookstore I used to shop in.
There's also a McDonalds on that block now. It's roughly where that ladder to the window is on the first pic.

Here's the google Earth link for that spot. Reference point is the small tower thing at the top left of the square (hard to make out, but you can see it in shadow). That's the gothic looking thing directly behind him to his right in the color photo. Hitler's car is parked about where the orange van is just above where the (temporary) tennis courts are set up in the square in the Google Earth view.
