My favorite workout is running bleachers. I used to run them at A&M Consol High School all the time. I can't find any good places in SA that allow public access, though. Anyone in SA know of any?

Same question for Austin. Most of the high school stadiums look like they have locked gates, including House Park.

i have nothing to offer, but you do realize how bad that is on your joints, right?

If done in moderation stair and bleacher workouts are actually quite beneficial.

I know Blossom stadium used to be open to the public a few days a week. You will have to check with someone in NEISD.

Antonion High School used to have a killer set of stairs from the parking lot to the baseball field. It isn't bleachers but it's damn hard.

Running bleachers isn't bad for your joints.

Going UP bleachers is one of the best workouts I can think of. Coming DOWN is when you need to take it easy on the knees, but that's about it.

If clausterphobia and a few strange looks don't bother you, you can always go run the stairwell in a high rise building.

Where do you live in Austin? I graduated from a high school in NW Austin 3 years ago and I know of a few places in that area that have open access bleachers.

riiiiiight. just running puts A LOT of impact on your joints. now compound that with coming down on bleachers. yes, that's not bad at all.

Mandingo is right. When I go up there is minimal impact. I take it easy going down, though, because there is more impact.
I personally can't run because of the wear on my lower legs, so for me running is more abusive to my joints.
Aggie00 I wonder if you are just talking or have ever tried this. I'm sure it could be different for everyone.
I will give NEISD a call to check on Blossom.

I think I agree that there's less impact on the joints when running up bleachers. I've had surgery on both of my knees and often have problems with them when I run. I've never had problems running bleachers (taking it easy on the way down).

I used to love running the bleachers at Rice before they closed it. I heard someone got hurt and sued.

Damn lawyers!

Evidently I've been out of the loop longer than I thought. This is the first I've seen of this forum. I love it. Anyway, the best bleachers in San Antonio are at Alamo Stadium. They're high and made of concrete unlike those tiny, aluminum things you find at the high schools. They usually open at 7am and close at 3pm. They also follow the SAISD school schedule (i.e. school closed = track closed) so be warned. I'll be there tomorrow at 9am if anyone wants to join me.

Thanks LAX. I don't know if I can swing that schedule for Alamo regularly but I will try to check it out. I have been going to Blossom and doing the soccer bleachers. They are not as high as the football stadium at Blossom but at least I can always get in. Also they are wooden instead of aluminum but you get to know which steps wobble and all the steps are nice and wide.
That is my absolute favorite workout.
Thanks for the info!
