Garmin Watch - GPS/CPE File Issues

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Has anyone else had trouble with weekly "CPE File Expired" issues making their watch unable to get a GPS ready state before a run? I bought a Forerunner 55 back and February and have had nothing but trouble with it and having to connect it to a PC weekly to "refresh" the CPE file.

I called Garmin customer service and have just gotten the runaround. The last time they told me that it was because I was not turning it off and rebooting it once a week and was lectured that all electronics need a weekly reboot to operate properly. Unreal. I suspect they have a hardware or software bug that is not fixable. They also always tell me that I'm the only one who has called with this problem. When I demanded a replacement they said I would have to put down a $190 deposit until they received the old watch back. Or, I could ship mine in and not have a watch for 2 weeks while they process it and ship me another one.

I would give the response by Garmin an "F" at this point. Anyone else having this issue, and, if so, were you able to get a resolution? Thanks advance.

can't help with this one, but Garmin's support has gone WAY downhill. Their support was always absolutely amazing taking care of their customers. Now it seems like everyone gets the same thing. Run you through a script, refuse to accept that something could be wrong that is Garmin's fault, and then ask you to pay them $180 for a refurbished replacement.

Are there any companies with good customer service left?

FWIW, garmin has had the deposit deal for awhile now and wasn't a big deal at all when I used it. Can't remember the exact issue but I had a 945 that was a couple months out of warranty. They said I can ship them my watch and they'll repair it or pay a deposit and when they received my watch they'd refund it. As I was actively training and didn't want to be without a watch I went that route. Very seamless process.

Mine wasn't a deposit. They wanted me to pay them 180 to replace it for something that was their fault.
