My first dose of Miralax (8.3 oz) is at 5pm and the second (4.1 oz) is at 10pm for an appointment at 8am.
My main question is, when will I be "done" for the night? Will I be able to get any sleep?

Also, is chicken/beef bone broth okay to drink? The list says regular chicken broth is fine, but I don't know if that counts as a different thing.

I would follow the directions. The color of what is ingested matters. Like no red color in drinks. Could affect the doctors view…

Man I don't miss the "prep" I remember sitting on the toilet a bunch but don't remember all the details. It was a long time ago.

Cologuard for the win. Poop in a box and ship it off.

You'll get sleep. The 5pm round ended for me right around the time for the second dose. I fell asleep and I woke up around 5am on the verge of exploding out of my rear end. I thought there's no way I would finish before my appointment but I did.

They really have it down to a science. This is the hardest part of the whole thing.. the procedure is a breeze.

I woke up during my colonoscopy. I could see the tv screen and the doc taking sample. I could also feel it on my insides. Ouch. Wasn't able to speak, and all I could manage was a groan. Doc looked surprised. They upped my anesthesia and it was lights out again.

Not what I'd call a "breeze."

Sorry man. Everyone else I've ever talked to had no issues, so don't worry about that. Was actually kinda cool I got to watch some of it. It didn't hurt that bad and once I was able to groan, it was lights out.

Good for you for doing it and getting checked out. The alternative is much, much worse.

Just had one on Monday and later in the day! Didn't know they give Miralax, mine was some script deal.

I thought it was much less of a big deal than what I heard. The stuff I got didn't feel like a regular laxative. Kinda disintegrated anything in there and pee out your rear 2-3 times over an hour with first one and done. Next day is worst because water intake is restricted so I suggest you hydrate well the day before. 2nd dose was similar and after 3-4 sit you get to "clear".

Wild how they can really clean it out so well. Def shows all the "colon cleanser" for impacted stuff is total scam.

I was asleep before they even finished wheeling me into the OR. Said "you're kidding right" when they woke me up. Thought I was about to get wheeled in for the procedure then.

I took it at 6 pm and then 8 am (1 pm scheduled: 1130 arrival)

Good luck!

I actually felt very cleaned out and great. Some gas but I wasn't very uncomfortable.

Nothing like a 1 pm Monday anal probe!

I just noticed that for this procedure, you take three weeks worth of Miralax doses over the span of a few hours.

Yeah, I remember the doc telling me they do that sometimes. I can't remember what makes them decide between Miralax and the magic cocktail.

Mine told me that if you're not having any issues (that you know of), he'll do Miralax because it's more pleasant than the cocktail...relatively speaking, of course!

Only downside to cologuard is it doesn't have a way to detect polyps

Dab, don't wipe. And I was recommended Preperation H wipes to help ease any pain. Mine wasn't bad at all.

I just drank a lot of water, I was never hungry during the prep.

True, but you can do one each year with minimal effort. Less time, less expense. Win-win. It's a helpful screening tool.

But if you have a history, you need to do a colonoscopy.

I just had my first colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago and didn't find any part of it nearly as bad as everyone says it is. I did the Miralax prep. Hardest part was diet restrictions for a couple of days prior (since I usually eat lots of fruits and veggies and higher fiber foods). I also thankfully realized I could dissolve the Miralax in water and only half of the Gatorade they gave me so it wouldn't be so overly sweet. Thought about not using the Gatorade at all but figured I might need the electrolytes. Time spent in bathroom was much less than expected and not bad at all.

My advice is eat really light the day before your prep so there is less ..ahem.. cleaning out needed. As others have said it was not nearly as bad as I expected.

I am a big proponent of starting to push anyone with historical "plumbing issues" or any type of history in the fam with bad gastro stuff NOT JUST cancer diagnosis to start getting them in your 30s.

I'm taking a deep dive on my comprehensive health this year now that I have young kids. Essentially forced my gastro to do one when they said it really wasn't necessary.

For context I'm a 34 yr old dad bod guy but relatively good health, bit overweight typical dad yada yada.

Found a few polyps and another patch of stuff they sent out for testing but no one is overly concerned. Now will def be getting one, and doc will require it, every 5 years (so at 39)

I share all this to say, had I not been very vocal about my opinion of needing one and kept rolling, barring any other health issues that might pop up, they wouldn't have advised to do it until I was 45 per the medical field's current guidelines.

Just think about those not being cleaned out this week and getting worst for 11 more years! I realize that's an oversimplification but you get my point.

COVID and now all that is available on health self education/ability to take your health head on on your own (with your PCPs advisory) has really made me question the whole medical community at large.

My gastros comments regarding insurance if it's elective or needed etc was so infuriating.

In short, I encourage everyone to get a good snap shot of all your systems working together and start tackling the causes. I will not be the guy giving big pharma a monthly paycheck to be on a statin my whole life if I can help it.

My goal is to be off any meds by the end of the year and supplement to help curb my hereditary high cholesterol. Will certainly take some lifestyle changes and hard work but playing the long game here this year. We'll see if it works out.

Getting one every 5 years is great, but may I suggest to get this every year? Cologuard. You poop in a box and ship it off for testing.

Gross, but it takes only a few minutes and should be covered by insurance. Check it out and ask your PCP.

Bone broth is fine.

My first one was two months ago. The liquid was awful. I'm supposed to get them every five years due to family history. I will 100% ask for the pills rather than the liquid prep next time. I can handle large pills and I can handle large amounts of liquid. I cannot handle the taste of the prep even mixed with Gatorade.

I did the cheaper liquid gallon of prep my insurance would cover. The first half gallon dose? Nothing. Nothing but misery chugging that terrible crap down.

About the time I could start to take a nap after 24 hours of nothing but clear liquid diet, time for round 2. About 11pm. Made it a quart in and then not nauseated and spewed all over the toilet and bathroom floor and I usually have an iron gut. Then, I had to keep chugging the remainder and hope it was enough. It took a while, but just when I was starting to be really concerned I'd have to reschedule and do it all over again due to not being "prepared", it kicked in. Big time. I was a bit concerned it would still be working when I had to leave to get to the medical facility, but sure enough, everything was cleared out and done by then.

The procedure was a sweet relief after being sleepless, nauseated, having a headache from lack of sufficient food (I already am pretty lean and eat pretty clean, so no reserves). I got the best sleep I had not remembered in a long time, then I got to get up, get driven home, and basically had license to pig out for a day.

I was told on the Colorgard that there can be false positives and if you get one, they tell you to do a colonoscopy anyway. Also, as mentioned it doesn't detect polyps which are what turns into cancer. I did my first one at 47 and was clear of anything. I plan to get one every 5 years even though my doc said I can go to 10.

That is true, there can be false positives. But with cancer, the earlier you catch it the better. To each his own, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Plus you are denying how fun it is to poop in a box and show up to a UPS store with it.

I got to do 3 preps since last May. The first time they gave me Gavilyte-C. I followed the directions, but the prep wasn't adequate. Apparently, that does happen sometimes. They gave me Clenpiq for the second attempt in September. I decided to begin the prep a little early with magnesium citrate from Amazon. I got a call at 6 am on the day of the procedure telling me they had a water line break at the surgical center and all procedures were off. We rescheduled for December. They never sent me a new prescription, so I just went with the magnesium citrate. The prep was sufficient.

I mixed it 5 oz with 15 oz of water. It was actually pretty good to me. I could drink it as a drink if it weren't for the side effects.

Last week I had an eso****eal manometry. No prep at all, but a miserable procedure. I'd rather do another colonoscopy than do that again.

I've got a colonoscopy scheduled for Monday, so prep starts tomorrow evening. I got a prescription for Suprep. Can't say I'm looking forward to it, but it'll be interesting to get a before/after weigh-in.

Never have had an issue with not being totally asleep or remembering any of them.
Get them done and don't depend on Colaguard…. it's only testing for blood in the stool. It's better to find polyps, etc before they are bleeding. It's a good test but doesn't replace colonoscopy.
