Any of you use a body composition scale?

I have never really trusted the things and instead have checked my body composition a few times a year at a place with the submergible tank. There was a truck based one in Fort Worth that came by our health club a few times a year and if you bought a package ended up about $20 per visit.

However, they've gone out of business. And the storefront places seem $$$$$

So I may want to buy an in home scale. Any of you have them? Have you tested their accuracy vs. submergible vs. calipers?

Don't want to waste $$ as these things can be quite pricy.

I have a Fit Index that I bought on Amazon a few years ago. Current price is $23.

I don't use it as much as I used to, but I have compared it to the results of an InBody scan on multiple occasions, and it has pretty good agreement with that. So, for the purposes of home assessment and seeing trends over time, I think it's fine.

I figure all these machines have an error of at least several percentage points (based on comparisons of InBody scans). So that's why I say use it for trends rather than absolute numbers.

I have a Fit Index, too. If I remember correctly, I recommended it to TX Transplant some time ago.

I can't vouch for the exact accuracy of it, but I also don't care as much about the absolute values it measures. I pay attention to trends week to week, so it serves the purpose I need. I've never done an evaluation in a lab to know how accurate or not it is relative to something more precise.

I also measure neck, forearm, wrist, waist, and hips once per week and use those trends in conjunction with the Fit Index trends.

We also have a fit index that we've had for at least five years. I am surprisingly very pleased with it and it seems to be accurate based on cross checking it with calipers. At a minimum it is consistent and that is all I care about.

I bought one of those Hume body pod scales a couple of months ago, have NO idea how accurate it is, but mostly using it to track my numbers for my most recent health phase I'm in.

Check to see if there is a body spec in your area. It's about $40 per DEXA scan and is HSA eligible.

I use this every 3-4 months. Seems to be pretty accurate and nice to see non scale gains. Last scan was -1% body fat with same weight.

I have a FitTrack, and I hate it. It does not integrate well with the Hume app. Very buggy. It just collects dust in my house now.

My primary care physician has something like this in the office. It's part of my annual physical. I enjoy comparing the most recent "scan" to previous years.

I have a Renpho body composition scale. Like the others, I use it to track trends, not as an absolute measure. I also weight same time every morning before eating or drinking anything, again to track trends.

I just use the Renpho app and it's very user friendly. I also have a Renpho Bluetooth tape measure to track measurements (for women that a much better indicator of body changes) and it's all in the app.

I use a Withings scale. Pricey, but seems fairly accurate. The older model only shows weight, fat %, HR.

I'm upgrading to a newer one that shows fat mass, muscle mass, and some other things.

This. I honestly never use them anymore. Most are inaccurate. I remember using 2 different InBody Scanners in a week's time and getting a consistent 16% on one and 13 on the other. Which was it? Probably neither. I was probably between in the middle but I look leaner (though 15 can be very lean looking on some people). I honestly just go by the mirror. They are pretty good for trends though. I could tell that the leaner I got in the mirror, the lower score I got....

I find it motivational - being able to see my trend graphs over a week, month year etc can keep me going when what I really want is to swim in donuts like Scrooge McDuck. For me that's the main benefit, not knowing that I'm at a specific body fat or lean mass number.

The scale has me at 15.3%
