I was going to suggest giving up soda. I had significant improvement in brain fog after I gave up diet cokes.

I still have the caffeine via unsweet tea so I attribute it to the artificial sweetener.

Any of the zevia drinks. Dr zevia or the vanilla zevia are really good. Even the ginger zevia is good.

He's class of 49. He can have whatever he wants in my opinion.

That being said, could consider carbonated water with some added flavor. I used to like root beer as a kid. I think cream soda is also caffeine free. Sprite. Fanta orange soda.

Some root beer is caffeinated while other isn't. Barq's has caffeine, Mug does not, just to compare the two brands owned by the big two soda companies. Same goes for the various orange sodas on the market.

Diet Barqs (or Barqs Zero, as it's now called) is caffeine free. But good luck finding it. It's pretty much disappeared from the Houston area.

Honestly- and I mean this in all sincerity- I would stop drinking all soda. Diet and regular, caffeinated and non-caffeinated. It's all just so bad for you.

Edit: Just saw you're class of 49. Carry on my friend.

That advice still applies to most of us!

Blanket advice without context ain't all that

If you personally find that keeping weight off is easier when you drink diet drinks, then I would keep them in the rotation. But if you personally find that drinking any carbonated soda- diet or not- makes it harder to stick to a weight loss plan, then YES you should probably avoid them. There is no other solid objective reason for doing so.

We can agree to disagree. I think soda, diet or not, is bad for you and it's best to just stay away.

But to each his own!

Here's a product I developed. It's for electrolyte replacement, but it tastes good. You could mix it with sparkling water if you need the carbonation. I suppose the magnesium would help with sleep too. But it's very high sodium by design. If that's not good for you, then maybe some other stevia-sweetened beverage.

Agreed I mean read the damn label. The more the unnatural ingredients it has the worse it is for you. Just drink water or coffee or tea and stay away from any sodas. You can also just use lemon or lime or orange in your water for flavor if you want.

To me, there is just not enough evidence that zero sugar/sugar substitute sodas are at all harmful to one's health. Granted, I wouldn't maybe drink too much of it, but most human controlled studies have shown that these are completely safe for people.

I think this article sums things up well...

Artificial Sweeteners: Bitter Controversy - Menno Henselmans

Menno is a great follow by the way. As is Dr. Layne Norton and Dr. Mike Israetel when it comes to these types of subjects.

I don't do sugar so if I use a replacement I'm choosing Stevia & Stevia sweetened products. Stevia is natural product and better than the artificial sweeteners. Stevia is also recommended for those that follow the Keto lifestyle
