Howdy.

Received word earlier this week that I may have choroidal melanoma. Was referred to a specialist in the Katy area (Dr. Amy Schefter). She seems to be top notch.

I'm processing everything and going through all kinds of emotions before receiving a diagnosis, but was curious if any others on this board have had or are dealing with this form of cancer.

The outlook is scary if it happens to metastasize, but the numbers seem to be all over the place in the articles I've read.

If anything, maybe my fellow Ags will say a few prayers.

A friend had melanoma behind his eye. Discovered after vision went blurry. Lost his eye having the tumor removed. As far as I know, no complications after the surgery. It's been 5-6 years probably and you'd never know if you met him.

Take care. I'm sure it's a lot to process.

A good friend of mine is an opthalmologist and one of my partners was unfortunately diagnosed with ocular melanoma a few years ago. When I asked her for recommendations she stated that Scheffler is the best in Houston. And that Carol Shields in Philadelphia is pretty much the unanimous world expert and has written the book.

FWIW he initially saw the group at MD Anderson and they recommended removing his eye. He then went to Shields for a second opinion and they treated him without removing his eye and he has been great since then and still working without any vision issues.

Best of luck and prayers for a recovery.

Thanks all.

Got 3 kids under the age of 9 with a baby on the way in December. I'm hopeful this is God's timing in the since that with the baby due in a few months, I needed to reset, fixate on Him, re-prioritize, start the healing (or just get the scare, if benign), and go be the best Dad/Husband I can be for my family.

Found some solace in learning that there's a patron Saint Lucy for eye diseases. There's a few prayers that I'll be saying for her to intercede on mine and my family's behalf.
