I have it on as well.

If I was going to run one of the big races, I'd love to do Chicago. This looks like a great race too.

IMO, NYC is light-years ahead of Chicago as far as the race and experience. The pre race logistics in NYC suck though.

Seems like half the race being in Brooklyn would be a drag. Is that not the case?

Brazilian running 4:37 - no way he maintains that.

Not at all. Some of the neighborhoods in Brooklyn are amazing.

For me, the section in the Bronx and harlem/north Manhattan was the part that was a drag.

It's why when I spectator, we were always up in Harlem. People need encouragement up there.

Thunder Alley.

Love it.

That section of the course is amazing.

And I agree....no way the Brazilian doesn't blow up spectacularly.

Rupp dropped. Guess he ran out of Salazar's special cocktail.

And the spectacular failure from the Brazilian has begun

Brazilian is having his lead shaved into.

Are there any huge races where the pre race logistics don't suck?

NYC is especially crappy bc you have to get to Staten Island and then you are out there for a long time before the race, many times freezing your ass off.

Oh man poor guy. He looked to be in a lot of distress.

Wife (RN) said looked like heatstroke.

Brooklyn is a 10 mile block party. It's awesome.

Agree on the Bronx/Harlem being lane. Although, in Harlem, a bunch of firefighters came out and ran a bit with us and their truck. That was pretty cool.

Had a friend that ran NYC this year. Said the race itself was a great experience, but some major issues: he waited 2+ hours at the Staten Island ferry terminal to get on a bus to the start village. Said there was no crowd control or direction and was just mass chaos, ended up missing his starting wave and had to start with a later group. Also, about half of the water stations on the course ran out of cups, so volunteers were pouring water or Gatorade directly into peoples mouths. Didn't help that temps on Sunday afternoon were in the mid 70s.

Someone on reddit said the same thing about cups. I ran a half back in June and one station that I was counting on ran out of water. I started carrying a flip top bottle with me now, so it's easy to have them just refill. Sure, it's something to carry, but I learned my lesson.

Sorry to hear the pre-race logistics sucked.

I've run NY three times...1998,1999, and 2000. Back then there were 'only' 20,000 runners or so and the pre-race was very buttoned up. Lined up and caught a bus from Mid-town (in front of the NY Public Library), and dropped us off in Statin Island. Got there about two hours prior to the race so had lots of time to hydrate, pee, etc.

Just before the race, dropped off my bag to a waiting UPS area in the staging area, then picked it up a few hundred yards from the finish line in Central Park.

I absolutely loved running NYC. I'd have to say, the most interesting area was around mile 12 in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. The Hassidic Jews were there en masse...but never shouted or cheered us on...just observed. All one could hear was the sound of our running shoes hitting the pavement.

Still remember my PR....3:48:02 (in spite of running the old course which took you into Central Park much earlier than today's route...and a stiff head wind out of the North).

None of those issues in 2016 but good help is hard to find these days.

NYPD has had a mass exodus as of late and they are required for a lot of the logistics. So, that bleeds over into a lot of other aspects of race preparations. Also, I'm sure they've had issues since all of the lockdowns with changes in organization and leadership as well.

MCM even "felt" different this year & their staffing/help/logistics are damn near mandatory.

Mile 12 is the Silent Mile. Hasidic Jewish Neighborhood. Very traditional and they will barely make eye contact with you.

Finally getting to post.

I ran it this year. Went from zero miles to marathon in about 12 weeks with a lot of inconsistency due to injury. Worst marathon time I've ever run. My legs were toast by 11 miles. Right knee and hip flexor were really hurting. Considered dropping, but my wife encouraged me to go ahead and walk/run it out.

The crowds and atmosphere were incredible. Personally I didn't have any issues with the water stops that I heard later waves had.

I did have the big issue with the ferry to bus transfer. That was the biggest cluster **** I've ever been in. I was on the 6:15 Ferry and got to the bus line at 6:45. There was some semblance of lines, but that rapidly devolved into just a mass of people shoving for the door. Every bus stopped at a slightly different spot and shoving was insane. It became a crush and you literally couldn't move. You were stuck together and it got insanely warm and uncomfortable. Made me want to pass out. You were constantly trying to flex and hold your ground so you didn't get knocked over. People were panicking. It was wild how uncontrolled it was. It was in that for about 1.5 hrs. Personally I blame that as part of the reason my race went so bad. Spent a lot of energy in that mass of people.

If I do it again, definitely taking the super early bus that goes straight to the start

Looking forward to sleeping in my suburban bed, driving downtown, parking in EADO, and suffering DURING the race. And if it's 75 degrees in Houston, maybe I'll just skip it. No point training for a time goal for 6 months and then having no chance. Yeah, for a half, but not for a full.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough
