Apple Watch problem

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Charged my watch last night like I always do. Woke up this am and had a notification on my iPhone that the watch was fully charged.

Went to my exercise class, started tracking my workout, and at some point the watch turned off completely (I'm not sure when). Checked my phone and about 28 min of the workout was recorded.

Came home and put my watch on the charger. After a few minutes the screen came back on. Checked the battery settings and it said I had 8% battery life and the last charge was only to 28%.

Watch is 3 years old, [edit] and and it's version 4.

Is this the beginning of the end? Should I just go ahead and replace it? I wear it every day.

Googling says that Apple is reportedly going to stop supporting the Series 3 this fall. So sounds like a good time for an upgrade

Thanks. I didn't see that when I Google-searched my problem.

It's actually a series 4.

My experience is these things seem to have about a 3-4 year lifespan, so likely time for an upgrade anyway.

I mean it's probably near the end of it's useful life, but, unless you're having other issues or this is a recurring thing, I wouldn't replace it simply because of this one instance. Could have just been a random one off for it to stop charging early.

Thanks for the input. I'd noticed a pretty significant decline in battery life the past few weeks. Up until then, I could wear it all day and not get a low battery warning before I put it on the charger and went to bed.

Last few weeks, I've been getting the low battery warning earlier and earlier in the evening, several hours before I'm ready to take it off and go to bed.

I went ahead and pulled the plug on a 7. Apple will supposedly give me $75 for my trade-in, and my fitness studio is offering $50 credits if I take 8 classes a month for 6 months (up to $200 total). I'm going to be taking those classes anyway, so might as well take advantage.

I am bummed that rose gold is no longer an option. I got starlight, but I love my Milanese magnetic band, and it's not really going to match the new watch.

Don't get me wrong, not saying it's dumb or blaming you for upgrading.....

Hell, I'm trying to convince myself I need the new Garmin Forerunner 955 because my 945 needs to be charged more than once a week.....

Oh, no, no…I didn't think that at all! It's funny because even before you posted, I told myself to just wait and see what happens with it, in case this was just an anomaly.

But I guess I just can't help myself. I really do wear it every day, and I was super annoyed that it died during my workout today. I don't have the patience to let it do that again (even though, in the grand scheme of things, I probably don't even have to track my workouts anymore).

I just replaced my 4 Series a few weeks ago. it was 3 1/2 years old. Still worked but I was having to charge it more than once a day.

I was rocking an Apple Watch 2 up until about 3 months ago. I had to charge every night, but it still worked fine and felt like it met my needs. It finally met it's fate when when my Aggie ring accidentally smashed the screen.

I replaced it with a 7 and, holy cow, this works so much better...larger screen, faster processor, faster charging, more features, etc.

I set up my 7 this morning. I knew this from a while back, but my strap was absolutely glued into my old watch face. I had to put it in the freezer and use a screwdriver to tap/pry the band out of my old watch.

That alone made getting a new one worth it. The starlight is growing on me. My Milanese band is rose gold, and it doesn't match, but it doesn't look terrible, either.

I was also worried that the face on the new watch might be a bit big (I have tiny wrists), but it's fine, too.

Fingers crossed Apple gives me the full $75 for my trade-in. They've screwed me on an iPad before.
