How long do you want to ignore this user?
Curious if anyone here has tried or is currently doing the 75Hard program from Andy Frisella. Did a search on TA and couldn't find any related threads.

Would love feedback, both positive and negative

I have an acquaintance that's tried it a few times. It sounds pointless and like it's setting a lot of people up for failure. If you do make it, it's not sustainable.

That's a good point and I've read many articles that seem to show more caution than anything else. At the same time, I don't think about it as a long term plan, more so as a kickstarter for people who need to build discipline into their lives. Maybe I'm wrong on that though. I know one guy who has done it and he loved it for the mental toughness and discipline

I'd never heard of it until this weekend, clearly shows how much I'm in tune with social media. My wife knew all about it

Jim Rome has a bunch of these types on his reinvention podcast. He had this dude on once, probably one of the least impressive interviews. That's all I can add

Never heard of this before today either. Quick first impression:

Good:

1) Mindfulness (e.g., taking 10 minutes a day to read/think about self-improvement)

2) Taking pictures to show incremental progress over time; 'journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step'

3) No alcohol: liquid calories are terrible for weight and fitness

Bad

1) Deprivation: No diet needs to be followed strictly every minute of every day. It's just a recipe for burnout and rapid rebound weight gain. Lifestyle changes need to be sustainable.

2) Exercising daily without fail: Will 45 minute of exercise daily for 75 days hurt you? No, particularly if you cross train, but again it's not sustainable and eventually will hurt athletic performance. Even pro athletes rest.

3) Daily outdoor exercise-Your body doesn't know if it's inside or outside. Plus this isn't a great idea in a Texas summer or Minnesota winter

4) Reset if you "slip up": so if I follow this faithfully for two months and then one day I forget to take a selfie or drink "only" 120 ounces of water, I'm supposed to start all over? LOL no.

Not to mention that I don't think everyone needs this much water every day. If I drank that much water, I'd just be flushing everything out.

But you have to follow the program with ZERO compromises. Everything in 75 HARD has a purpose that you will understand once you complete the program.

I see people trying to change or modify the program ...

That's the WHOLE PROBLEM OF YOUR ENTIRE LIFE.

This.

After reading about it I think it is more a psychological push than anything. To get you out of your bad habits and change something for the better.

It is sustainable as there are 3 phases. My SIL did 75 Hard plus Keto back in April of last year and when she finished she lost 40+lbs. She just walked 5+ miles everyday. She tried to start a whole new 75 Hard when my wife decided to do this but decided to go the macro route as her dietician told her that she needed to eat more.

My wife started 75 Hard at the beginning of the year and she has lost over 25lbs to date. Her 75 days ends on 3/21. She also decided to do Keto and walks outside everyday. Her other workout consists of Zumba, weight training, or another walk. My wife is already talking about doing Phase 2 after her break period ends from 75 Hard.

I'm super proud of my wife and her accomplishments to date.

I'm on day 50 right now after having started over on day 50 before because of the water requirement…so basically day 100.

I'm not going to try to sell anyone on 75, because it's not for everyone. But what I will say is this; it is not intended to be a fitness program. There is a fitness aspect to it, but the program is more geared toward mental toughness, forcing yourself to do hard/uncomfortable things (exercising outside despite the weather), strict discipline (sticking to a diet with no cheat meals and no alcohol), personal development (reading everyday), and paying attention to the small details (taking a selfie everyday).

Like I said, I'm not trying to convince anybody to do it but if you just look at it as a "fitness challenge", you can pick it apart in a hundred different ways. Andy even says as much in his podcast.

I have no idea what y'all are talking about, but I ran 10 miles this evening. Just finished a Body Armor and a glass of milk, which will take my liquid intake to around 70 ounces for the day. I'll probably go over 120 on Saturday when I run my marathon. Why in the world would you need to drink 120 ounces of water per day? Even the old "8 glasses per day" is a misquoted number. The primary citation meant total liquids, including food.

I have a few friends that have done it and they had good results but none of them stuck with it. It helps people with addictive personalities do something new or get over an another addiction (2 people I know that did it were alcoholics before) and gave them a reset. I wouldn't do it myself but if you want to then do it. Better than sitting and doing nothing

I wouldn't call #75hard a 'program'. It's a motivational speaker grift.

It is exactly the point. People who think this is a fitness routine have it wrong.

It's not about the fitness (though it's an added benefit); it's about resetting your habits and establishing mental toughness and follow through - something I need to get better at; which is why I am giving it a go... hopefully, I'll be 100% on it and get something good out of it.

75Hard is just the kickstarter, there are 3 more phases after that to be completed in within 1 year.

My wife and I, and our group of friends, just started. If you are interested, listen to the podcast:
https://andyfrisella.com/blogs/realaf-podcast/208-75hard-livehard-winning-the-war-within-unlocking-your-full-potential

Anyhow, it's only 75 days to get started; no money involved; and if its a potential path to improvement - worth the try.

Hey, I'm skeptical, but I am willing to give it a try.

There is no money involved; it's simply a challenge for self improvement - how is that grift?

Day 30 here; down 16 lbs; feeling really damned good even with 2-a-days for 29 previous days... drinking a gallon of water has gotten pretty easy, in fact I find myself finishing a gallon by about 3-4 PM and then need MORE water by the end of the night (parched before bedtime).

I never read non-fiction, but I've finished 1 book ("Start" by Jon Acuff) and I'm 120 pages into "The Secrets of Happy Families" by Bruce Feiler.

Taking the daily progress pic is also a boost, comparing day 29 to day 1 lets me see the visual difference from where I started to where I am (big difference in "shape")

Day 65
Down 29 lbs since day 1 (38 lbs from Spring Break)

Read 3 non-fiction books

Awesome spreadsheet. Keep it up!

I have a friend in my F3 group trying to get me to do it. I might start it up when the kids start school in August as we will have a much more regimented lifestyle. I don't know how anyone can stick to that schedule and remember everything through the summer!

Its really been about managing time; especially since my wife is doing it too... who can go do the outdoor workout; who has to stay home with the kids; did you do all the steps today? No, gotta drink 3 more glasses of water before bed, etc.

I also had to do this while in Greece for 15 days on business - didn't get to eat any huge bready meals or drink any alcohol... but did quite a few beach workouts

The biggest thing has been realizing I do have more time in the day to get priority things done if I make it a priority; and being able tell my whiny voice in my head to suck it up and follow through.

Diet was basically cutting our processed foods and simple sugars. Whole30-ish

Biggest challenge was either remembering to read 10 pages, taking a selfie, or getting my full gallon in before midnight... haha. The workouts were tough (using peloton to track everything) but were actually what I looked forward to each day. Cutting alcohol was easy as I just avoided it and when we had parties and stuff I drank sparkling waters in a koozie so it looked like I had a beer to outsiders.

So basically the diet and alcohol ran on autopilot. I looked forward to tough / challenging workouts after the first week and got in a groove. I always did my reading at night after the kids were in bed and usually had 1-2 big glasses of water to finish.

I wound up making a daily checklist after week 1 so I could check it each day to remember what I had left. Even then, after about 50 days I got complacent and my wife had to remind me 2-3 times in the last few weeks if I missed something - she saved my bacon.

P.S. most of my workouts consisted of some combination of run, walk, and/or bike ride. If I did a peloton ride I'd warmup on just ride for 10 minutes, then do a 20-30 min coach session, then cool down 5-15 minutes. For the first month I only did walking / ruck marches as my outdoor workouts. Once I cut back about 10-15 lbs I introduced intervals, and did an 8 week "You can run outdoors" program via Peloton; by the end I could run without breaks for 30 minutes.
