How long do you want to ignore this user?
TL;DR Anyone have any suggestions on a good magnesium glycinate supplement to help with sleep?

I am currently on a Zoloft/Rexulti combo for GAD. 25mg of Zoloft and .25mg of Rexulti. Yes, you read those dosages right. I did a genetics test and it was confirmed I am super sensitive to medications, especially SSRIs and the like. I knew this before due to trial and error with a few other medications before the test.

Being so sensitive it's hard for me to find a balance with drugs that helps the anxiety without overmedicating my body. Currently, everything is improved for me across the board on these dosages, but I wouldn't mind a liiitle more help in the sleep department without having to increase any of the above two mentioned.

That being said, falling asleep isn't a huge deal for me, but staying asleep and sleeping soundly frustrates me. I sleep for the most part and am glad for it after years of struggling in the past with terrible insomnia, but I'm most alert between 3-6am still and have nights where I toss and turn.

My medication management doctor suggested some magnesium to help (among some other things which I am going to do as well). She told me to look into the glycinate form since that's easier on the stomach (I have a terrible gut that I'm working on to improve with probiotics).

Any suggestions on a helpful supplement is appreciated. I've looked into Coral Legends Plus and Calm so far.

I have been taking the Calm brand tablets for about a month. Also, have tried the powder version and it seems to work well too. Just ease into it, I learned that the hard way after taking full 2t dose the first night

Have you tried melatonin?

I tried melatonin a few years ago without much success. Falling asleep isn't an issue so I tried the extended release kind to combat the middle of the night waking. It was okay but I didn't want to become dependent on it.

You've probably looked into this already - foods that are naturally high in magnesium. Beans and nuts like cashews, brazil nuts and almonds are both high in magnesium and also relatively easy to incorporate into your diet. I buy a tub of the roasted mixed nuts from Target or Costco and have a couple handfuls a day. Edamame and spinach are also pretty high in Mg. I'd give that a try before I took a supplement specifically for Mg.

I've had sleep issues for years and am also in antidepressants. The best combination I've found for me is to take one melatonin pill and half a Costco sleep aid pill. Perfect combination of getting to sleep, staying asleep, but not waking up groggy. I normally sleep about 6-7 hours per night.

I take a combination of Zolpidum and Amitriptyline. My doctor explained to me that the first is only intended to knock you out for up to about four hours. The latter is a long term sleep aid. I take 10 mg of the first and 25 mg of the latter.

I started on magnesium supplements earlier this year and didn't notice that much improvement in my sleep but the dreams are crazy fun. I recently upped my dose and have noticed an improvement in sleep and the dreams are still great. I'm hooked!

Sleep MD has a good mix of ingredients and it works most every night for me. It's over the counter and fairly reasonable.
