And the market is filled with so many different equipments it's mind boggling.

Just looking to do basic strength training, bench, squat, calf raise, pull ups, butterflies, military press, and curls at home in safety.

Smith cage?? Or not? Regular cage? Brand? Is Marcy any good?

Didnt have cage system in HS or college.

Thanks!

Sand bags. Then you can skip pretty much everything else.

WTF is sand bag??

It's the only thing I use now. I have two different weight sandbags and two different weight kettlebags. Brute Force has a great free app with daily workouts.

It doesn't take much time at all to get a great workout in.

I kind of echo vornado. If you want overall good strength, pick up and move heavy things in general. I like sleds, farmers Carrie's, etc. I now think training like a strong man is the way to go.

If you want to lift weights, get a good quality cage and a decent adjustable bench. That with weights is really all you need. Texas strength systems has some good stuff, but I hate to say it but Rogues stuff is pretty good as well. Just make sure you have oh chit bars or straps if you are lifting alone.

I do all my lifting now with dumbbells and kettlebells. There are an infinite number of things you can do with dumbbells.

No way really you should write for Mens Health.

The best shape I was ever in, muscle wise, was when I worked at Lowe's. Picking up 80# bags of quickrete and putting them in truck beds or rearranging a pallet. Shouldering a 3/4" sheet of ply wood. Etc.

I bought a titan fitness rack that folds away against the wall. Works great. I'll sell it to you if you want it. I think I paid around $450-$500.

Nothing wrong with it. Just the pull up bar is thick and I do a lot of work on that bar and it screws with my grip after a while.

I also love my sand bag.

And for me it was baling hay. Talk about pecs, shoulder, back, abs... it was glorious.

And I never wanna do it again.

My gym just got a squat stand (without safety bars) and a competition bench press station from Texas Strength and they are really nice. He got a couple of bars from there too. They are nice too, but they are too new for me. The grips on them are really rough and hurt my hands. I prefer the Rogue Ohio bar that we have there. It could be that it's just worn down more though.

So what changed from your first post where the industry was so vast and product filled that you were experiencing paralysis due to too many options? Now weight lifting is like VCRs and magazines?

Not true, I lift everyday. Squats, deadlifts, cleans, snatches, thrusters are regulars in the rotation.

I just get happy when I program a sand bag is all. Maybe because I do less of it.

I built mine a couple of months ago. I really like how it turned out, but not sure I'd go with a folding rack again. I haven't folded it once since I've had it. It is pretty space saving though.

You said you were looking for equipment to do basic strength training. I suggested what I think is some of the best equipment you can have in a home gym.

FYI, They have a replacement pull up bar for that unit with a smaller diameter.

I second titan fitness. Great stuff at a reasonable price. PRX Performance is really nice stuff as well but at a higher price point.

Titan is good too. I've purchased several items from them and they have all been decent quality with very good prices.

The big reason I like Texas Strength is that it is right down the road and I can pick up for 0 shipping costs. Plus their equipment is very good. I have their monolift, row/pulldown combo and a competition bench from them. Plus several odds and ends.

Fringe sports is in austin and has weekly email specials and 10% off local pickup. I bought their $650 rack for $320. Its 3x2 and compatible with most other manufacturer accessories like Titan.

They also have some of the best/cheapest bumper plates. To save space you only need 10/25/45 lb plates then get a set of 5s and 2.5s.

I love the monolift. That's an awesome piece of equipment that I think a lot of people don't use or know about.

250 + pounds of dumbells and a stand, 250 pounds of Olympic weights, weight stand, 45 pound barbell, 2 benches, 1 pull down rack, some pilatis device all for $150.

Just need a power rack I think I'm set.
All in great condition. Evidently it came with the lake house and the new owner didn't want it.
