Turn the rope faster by moving your hands out away from your hips, this will shorten the height of the rope traveling above your head. Move your hands in toward your hip, makes the rope "longer" on the swing. Go look at some old footage of Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali etc...

OP is not a Fatty. Most overweight folks don't even attempt to jump rope.

Two years ago, I couldn't do one jump. Now I can knock out about a hundred before my legs get too tired to kee going.

Tricks for me:

- Keep hands as still as possible.
- I actually spin the rope with either my left or right hand, but not both. I switch between hands driving the rope every ten reps.
- I try to make sure I'm not drifting backwards. As I get tired I drift backwards.
- I also found it easier to jump FAST as opposed to slow. Once I get the rhythm going, it's easy to stay with it.

do you use a mat to jump on? what rope do you use? I have a couple on order that are relatively cheap just to get my feet wet with it but if I can manage it with my carpal tunnel, I will invest in a more expensive crossrope.

What kind of ropes are you using? Are you just trying to get better or do some tricks or double unders? I see a lot of people holding their arms way out and using too much effort to turn the rope. Arms should be close to your sides and you should be using your wrists to turn the rope. For your jumps, you are using your calves a lot. Bounce from the front of your foot, not flat footed.
