Well started a 48 hour fast just prior to 6pm. If anyone is interested I'll keep yall posted on my progress.

I've done a few 24 hour fasts and really liked how I felt at the end. Just want to push it out another day and see how I fare.

Posting stats to compare with Sunday evening.

Sex: Male
Height: 5'10"
Age: 32 years
Friday post meal weight: 204 lbs

I'm also keeping a record of everything I'm consuming during the fast which will only consist of water, black coffee, unsweet tea. In addition, I'll be adding ACV, lemon juice concentrate, Pink Himalayan Salt, and cream of tartar to my water on occasion.

I did a 6 day fast with just water and black coffee, and I felt great earlier this year.

Have fun!

About 22 hours in and I feel pretty good. I'm glad I've done a few 24 hour fasts previously because it's been a breeze thus far, but I know it's probably about to get tough.

Just completed a 3 mile trail walk and I'm surprised at how much energy I have. I've been drinking plenty of water, adding some sea salt and cream of tartar occasionally to keep my electrolytes up.

After 5:45 I'll be in uncharted waters.

Several reasons. I want to bring down my insulin and keep it low for an extended period of time. Bring my body to autoph agy, give my digestive system a break, and fat burning.

Good job. Go for a third day. Auto****y is shown to kick in, an average, on day three of a fast. For MOST people, it takes three days to be in a truly fasted state.

I think I will do a three day fast in the near future. I want to see how I do on a 48 hour fast first. Part of the reason I'm doing this is to switch from 18/6 to OMAD.

I'd recommend not doing it on a weekend. At least for me, it's nice keeping busy at work not being at home, with a kitchen full of food so close.

After letting my stomach settle a bit from breaking my fast, I'm honestly surprised I pushed through and completed it. I didn't really start feeling hunger pangs until about 40 hours in, but I kept pounding water and occasionally drinking black coffee and unsweet tea.

All in all I'm pretty impressed and something I plan to implement, maybe on a monthly basis.

Rundown of my stats:
Friday weight after eating (about 6pm) - 204
Saturday morning weight upon waking - 198
Sunday morning weight upon waking - 197
Sunday pm weight just before breaking fast - 196

Next time I'll take measurements with a tape to get a more complete picture, but I was just trying to complete the fast this time.

I couldn't do a 48 hour fast. I struggle with 48 minute fasts.

Will that weight stay off or does it come back once you start eating?

Also, do you have to ease back into eating so you don't shock your body?

This is in no way a reflection or attack on the OP... but I'm going to guess the weight will come right back if you resume normal eating.

These fasts might be good for "resetting your system" or whatever, but I don't believe they are overall helpful for long-term weight loss.

I do not take this as an attack. But if I'm eating keto, it won't all come back. A lot of the weight lost was obviously water weight. That's because I was starving my body of sugar aka carbs. Sugar holds on to the water. I'm under no illusion that the weight will magically stay off. But on keto the rubberband like weight return shouldn't happen.

If I did the fast and went back to the Standard American Diet (normal) yeah, the weight would absolutely come back.

I think doing 72 hour fast is where you start seeing the long term benefits. You do have to remember that doing 3+ fast day are a blast...those of you who have done them know what I am talking about. Your digestive system pushes everything right through the first meal.

One mental thing is doing the fast prevents me from getting hangry later. I sometimes do 24 hour fast but no more than that anymore.

I'm just now breaking a 40 hour fast with some pork belly, broth and eggs.

I've been thinking about trying a 24 hour fast and if that goes well, maybe a 48 hour fast after a couple weeks. I do have a couple questions. When doing a fast, are any artificial sweeteners ok? Can I drink propel, powerade zero, stevia in my coffee, etc? Also, what about bouillon? Sometimes when I feel hungry I'll drop a chicken bouillon cube into hot water and that takes the craving away, with only 5 calories.

Personally I don't do artificial sweeteners, and I don't put even a single calorie into my body during a fast. I know everyone is different but whenever I got hungry I drank water with some pink Himalayan sea salt and occasionally added Apple cider vinegar.

Once you've done a fast a time or two you'll notice that hunger comes in waves. For me when I'd notice I'm hungry, it would only last a few minutes and go away. So it made it easier. Once I got to 40 hours the hunger became more intense, but it went away a few minutes later.

Also keep reminding yourself why you are doing the fast, especially whenever the hunger comes. For me it helped take my mind off my stomach and push through.

Thanks. What about exercise? Did you have enough energy to work out? I've been doing keto since April, am down 38 pounds, and so far haven't hit a hard plateau. But I think a fast would be a good thing as I continue this process. I work out six days a week and rest on Sundays so maybe a Saturday night to Sunday night fast is best.
TJJackson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think it's totally up to how you feel, the first 24 hours you should be able to excerise no problem. The second 24 I did not, but if your energy is good, you could probably do some light exercise.

I last ate Sunday dinner around 6. Monday 6 am crossfit was no problem. Ate nothing Monday. Crossfit at 6 am today was going fine until the last couple rounds of the WOD and then I was hurting pretty bad. Was dizzy when I finished. Stretched out and caught my breath and it passed. I did decide to break my fast at nine instead of noon, though. That's two crossfit workouts in one continuous fasted state. Doable, but not something I necessarily want to do routinely.

One other thing I'd like to mention, if you're not doing intermittent fasting, jumping to a 24 hour fast will most likely to be difficult.

I fast 18 hours everyday, so throwing in OMAD isn't hard at all. On the other hand if I'm eating breakfast as soon as I get up, and my last meal is just a couple hours before bed, a 24 hour fast would be difficult.

I am doing IF already, other than my bulletproof coffee. I eat nothing between 9pm and 1pm the following day
nashvilleaggie11
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Drinking bulletproof coffee is not true IF. You can have black coffee but you're not fasting when you are consuming butter/heavy cream/MCT oil etc
OldAg92
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It is a modified IF - google "bulletproof intermittent fasting." I realize that it is not 100% "by the book" IF but it has worked well for me

I just listened to this podcast about fasting. Very interesting thoughts regarding health effects from fasting. And the people on the podcast sound really smart. I have been eating less and less after ketoing and have maintained and continue to slowly drop my weight after already losing 30 LBs since January. I've been working out a lot too. But this podcast really made me interested in fasting now.

I would also listen to Dr Jason Fung and one of his Therapeutic Fasting lectures.

Sorry I'm commenting again but Dave asprey is a bit of a charlatan in my book, so adding his bulletproof catch phrase to something on google doesn't mean it's credible.

Moseshallenforcer,

I don't disagree with you. I take all of his stuff with a grain of salt, and I certainly don't buy his schtick that only his special coffee beans will work. Having said that, the overall concept of IF but with the coffee in the morning has worked well for me so I am gonna run with it for now

Quick update:

Last Friday after I ate I weighed in at 204. Weigh in right before breaking my 48 hour fast was at 196.

One week later after resuming my normal keto diet with 18:6 IF (Wednesday was OMAD) I weighed in at 196 after supper this evening.

On weekends I do OMAD and I'm thinking about making a 48 hour fast monthly.
