It depends on the type of hearing loss, but if you have cochlear, sensorineural or inner ear hearing loss, then a hearing aid would be your first option. Only if you did not derive any benefit at all from a hearing aid would you consider a cochlear implant. Implantable hearing aides are very new and not many surgeons are doing them. If your case is very difficult you should see a neurotologist and not a regular ENT
