Well, I'm 29 and have shingles. Doc started me on valtrex and a steroid cream but is there anything else that helps with the pain? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dude, I got them when I was 24 from putting too much stress on myself to become a millionaire trader. They are a mother ****er! And came back several times when I'd stress out. Docs gave me the same stuff, it'd keep it from spreading and they'd subside, but then come back until I finally did my own research.

Get some DMSO and start applying it to the area infected. It kicked shingles ass for me and never came back. I was grinding up IBProfen and applying it to the skin after I rolled it on for pain relief. I asked the doctor about it and they said it used to be an old treatment because of something or another they stopped using it and that I shouldn't use it. F*** That! It works.

https://www.amazon.com/DMSO-3-oz-dimethyl-sulfoxide-Roll/dp/B005R4YB9K/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1478094316&sr=8-3&keywords=DMSO+Roll+On

I feel your pain, man. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I have scars, and I occasionally still get tingles in the area because of how bad I had it.

CAUTION!: Make sure you clean the area first. DMSO basically takes whatever else is with it right into the blood stream (that's why I'd crush up ibprofen and apply). So if you have some other substance that is harmful if it's ingested on the area, then it'll get absorbed into your bloodstream fast.

I lived on ibuprofen for weeks when I had it.

I'd try something like this. Ask your doc for some strong pain meds; no reason for you to suffer.

Note: Once you have shingles they recur when you have a bout of stress. I keep acyclovir in my desk at work and the med cabinet at home.

Also you need to get the vaccine after you recover.... You might have to fight your insurance because of your age. I did. The vaccine worked for about 6 years then quit working.

My first bout of shingles was a age 33 and it hurt for about 6 months. You will learn to feel the onset (it is like a tiny tingle or like someone is lightly tickling you in the affected area). If i feel that, I'm on meds by that night. You will never have to suffer the pain again if you notice the symptom onset.

I am 52 now and have not ever had the pain again. Only umpteen treatments that prevented it. I get 100 ct of Acyclovir (plus 2 refills) at my annual physical.

Agree.

But OP can avoid any future outbreaks so I focused on prevention.

Had them a few years ago. Just gotta give it time and take what the docs gives.

I remember it was a few weeks before I could drive on rural roads and not wince everytime I hit little bumps that I hadn't even noticed before.

Please give DMSO a try for a few days and see. The internet says the it clears them up in 3-4 days. And it actually did, and it's been 5-6 years and I haven't had another bout.

How'd it go OP?

I'm 34 and just got diagnosed. I thought something was in my eye all day Friday. Flew home from client that night. Spent the weekend skiing and the whole area around my eye progressively swelled.

I don't have any pain. Thought it was just a bad stye or something. Finally went to Urgent Care today and referred to an Opthalmologist immediately considering it's around my eye. I'm a bit shocked given my age, low stress and health.

I'm on Valtex now. 5 days post first symptoms. Still don't hurt, just swollen which is annoying - Quasimodo and all. I can see some bumps that look like blisters, so maybe the worst is yet to come.

Blast from the past! I hope your case resolves quickly as I know the eye area is a bad place to have it. The two things that helped most for me (outside of booze and time) were Dakin's solution and Domeboro soak. They seemed soothe the itching and dry out the blisters. My case was on my right side and the only thing I can compare it to is a solid band of poison ivy like rash that reached from my chest, under my arm, and on my shoulder blade. Good luck with yours!

I had it last year. No itching at all, but the pain was brutal. According to the doc, I didn't even have a bad case. I can't imagine how much it sucks to get a bad case, as I have a pretty high pain threshold and I was miserable for 2 weeks solid, with another week of it not being fun before it started fading.

Thanks for the replies. I ordered all types of crap to knock this out and added Domeboro to the list. I don't have weeks to lay-up on and work virtual.

I still don't really have any pain. Just pin-*****s, twitching and mild burning sensation (1/10 annoying pain). But my eye is nearly swollen shut now. My lid is the only area with vestibules. Everything else remains inflamed with bumps. They rushed me into the Ophthalmologist yesterday and my eye nerve checked in fine.

Anyways, day 6 now. This **** is so dumb and straight medieval.
