I need to lose a midget.

Was hoping someone could recommend a protein drink for in the mornings. I've noticed I do better during the day if I can start with that win.

Googling which protein powder is best is like unicorn hunting.

I mainly just want a good meal replacement. Any recipes or products you guys might suggest would be awesome..

I've had very good success over the past year by eating the following breakfast: 1/3 cup old fashioned oatmeal, 2/3 cup h20, one scoop protein powder (I use the chocolate flavor from SAMs), and a little almond milk.

It's very easy (h20 and oats in microwave for 1.5 min, then milk/shake), and gets me through the morning.

I bring my lunch to work. I rely on quest chocolate brownies for snacks. They're filling and satisfy my chocolate/sweet tooth.

For dinner it's a sensible homemade meal that is low in carbs.

I cut out seconds and I don't have much alcohol during the week.

I don't do anything extreme like cut out anything entirely.

After one year my wife just told me yesterday that I am thin enough and should stop losing wt. I actually already decided that as I hit my goal, but it was nice to hear.

Anyway, that worked for me. It also helped that I made a point of checking my weight almost every morning. It was motivating as I lost weight and a reminder to me during periods I wasn't doing as well.

Optimum Nutrition has a stellar reputation and tested very safe by Consumer Reports a couple of years ago. They also have very few carbs and fats like a lot of the muscle gainers do.

I'm a big fan of the ON Platinum Hydrowhey. Dymatize ISO 100 is also pretty good and a lot cheaper.

I stick to ON for my protein supplement needs with the Hydrowhey, Gold Standard Whey and Casein.

But are protein shakes really the best meal replacement options? They are often low in carbs and fats and don't have many vitamins and minerals other than the protein. I don't have any recommendations for a true meal replacement because I've never looked, but if I was using protein powder as a meal replacement, I would steer towards a casein product mixed with almond/cow milk versus water.

Personally, I eat oatmeal just about every day for breakfast. Hot oats are easy if you have a microwave around or cold/fridge oats allow for some interesting combinations. Cherry pie fridge oats are damn good. I'll add a scoop of whey protein if I think I'll be low on protein for the day.

Another vote or Optimum. I personally use Gold Standard 100% Whey because it's cheaper than their "premium" versions (Hydrowhey, etc.).

I drink Optimum gold standard Casein every morning.

Casein cause it breaks down slower than whey and makes me feel full longer.

You can't go wrong with Optimum Nutrition protein as others have mentioned. A few other good ones to consider are Universal Animal Whey, BPI ISO HD (banana is amazing), and Rivalus Promasil.

I've recently moved to Vitamin Shoppe's Body Tech branch of whey protein. Their Whey Tech Pro 24 has an almost identical nutrient/ingredient profile as optimum nutirition's gold standard, and right now it's BOGO 50% off. So you can get 10 pounds for $75. Their french vanilla tastes pretty good, a little sweet, but still good. And it's versatile enough to where you can add a tbsp of cocoa if you want chocolate flavor, or you want to add it into recipes. I've tried their chocolate mint, not bad, but didn't much care for it.

I've always used Optimum Nutrition, but recently found Intek. Their protein is amazing. Less sodium and cholesterol than ON, but more protein.

I was about to make that point about cholesterol. ON Hyrdo doesn't have it, the 100% Whey or whatever the cheaper on is, has too much.

Unless you have a familial predisposition to cholesterol issues, you probably do not have to worry about dietary cholesterol. FWIW, I have eaten an average of 4 eggs a day for the past 4 years or so, and my cholesterol numbers are fine.

100% Genetics. If you're predisposed to heart problems and high cholesterol I would be more cautious. I eat eggs all the time too and my cholesterol is good.
