How do you handle face sweat while you run?

So it's humid and gross in Houston and that means my face is dripping sweat in the first five minutes of a run. I use a head band and that helps a little, but I still end up with sweat mixing with my sunscreen and getting in my eyes which is not fun. I hate carrying anything in my hands while I run, so I don't carry a towel. I try just wiping it off with my hands, but my hands also get sweaty, so it doesn't do much good. Suggestions?

Run before the sun comes up so that you don't need sunscreen. I have a few running buddies that use a small shammy towel tucked in their running belt.

I think you'll just get used to it. I wear a hat on long runs and don't put sunscreen on my face and that helps. I also start my runs before the sun.

Headband, bandanna, or dry fit hat. It helps keep the sweat from just pouring down my face, but my face does still get sweaty. I just use my hands to keep it out of my eyes when I need to. Oh, and I'm a guy with a buzz cut. Probably makes a difference compared to longer hair.

Dry fit hat. I picked up an NBA headband for a costume this weekend. Thinking I may actually try it out.

I'm with you though. I hate sweat pouring down my face.

i don't understand how you people can wear a hat (even dry fit) in this heat. I'd burn up.

I usually run in the dark, so no hat needed. When I played tennis regularly, it was a visor ftw...

Has anyone ever told you that you resemble Kevin Sumlin?

00, as far as hat heat, I find it not any different than wearing a dry fit shirt. I wouldn't wear a cotton/wool hat, but the actual running hats I have work pretty well.

i have 6 or 8 running hats. great in the rain or winter, but in the summer, they just trap in the heat. its brutal.

I am used to wearing a hat in the summer now. I also like dunking it in water during my run. I think it helps cool me off. If I wear nothing on my head the sweat drip is almost too unbearable.

00 I'm with you, I've tried a had a couple of times and thought my head was on fire. I guess I just need to get up earlier (boo) and get a belt for a towel.

When running I try to never put sunscreen over my eyes since it will drip down. I use a headband like Headsweats or a trucker hat. As stupid as they look they are nice during some races where you can chunk ice in them and let it melt on your head.

Try the EltaMD sunscreen formulated for your face. I use that and it doesn't seem to sting as nearly bad as some of the other brands. I used a L'Oreal sunscreen on Sunday and was absolutely miserable about two miles in. By the time I finished my run, I could hardly hold my eyes open.

I've always wanted to try one of these, but always thought I'd look way too goofy...

I use a visor as well. I usually run in the evening and getting off residue in my mouth and eyes is the pits!

The sweat? No prob. The gnats? Prob.

For $20, I might be willing to look goofy. I'm going to look a litter deeper into this. Too bad they don't have maroon.

For your forehead sun block, use a stick instead of a cream. Make any arc over or on your eyebrows. The stick is hydrophobic, so the sweat will run down the sides instead of into your eyes.

I have trouble with the hat in the heat as well. Visor works well, but I shave my head so I have to be cautious of tan lines so I use the visor judiciously.

Ditto, but with the headband. Kind of creates a halo which I guess suits me perfectly, or not.

My Aggie Headsweats visor soaks up the sweat very nicely. Thanks dave99!

Ditto that. Mandatory race attire for me.

Nothing works well for me. I wear either a Buff headwear or a running cap but my eyebrows sweat just as much as my forehead so I still have to constantly wipe my face off. I may wear another Buff as a wristband.

I am a head shaver so the sweat has nothing to impede its travel so it can get pretty bad at times. I used a GUTR for a while. It does work and is works pretty well actually but it is a tad bit uncomfortable at first. It's not really stretchy like you might think so you have to get it snug to work properly.

It also does look pretty silly but I'm sure my mouth breathing and look of defeat are easier to laugh at.

I used a GUTR for a while when I used to run. I looked like an idiot I am sure, but it worked. Sometimes it would dump sweat down the side onto my sunglasses though. But for the most part, it worked really well.

Yeah, when I run, my clothing and accessories are the last things anyone would worry about as far as looks!

Suggestions?

I usually wear a small towel in my waistband that I can easily pull out of my waistband, wipe my face and return to
where it came from when finished.

I used a GUTR several times with great success. My only issue was it gave me headaches on longer runs. It dumps all that sweat down your temples and in front of your ears, but it DEFINITELY keeps it out of your eyes which is great.

I rock a NBA style headband at the gym or spin class, my bald head has to have a hat in the sun though

I let it build up until it drips/runs into my eyes then I curse under my breath until the burning stops

Your bald head needs a lot more than that...

HALO is the best sweat band, sweat hat I've used but still doesn't take long to get sweat running down the inside of my sunglasses.
