How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have had a recurring sore throat when I wake up each morning for the past three months or so. I have tried just about everything I can think of and have had no luck. I have tried using a carpet cleaner twice in our bedroom, changing the sheets multiple times, changing pillows, doing a deep clean of the bathroom, more frequent allergy shots, allergy relief pills, salt water, honey, drinking more water, eating dinner around 5. I have also bought a device that measures humidity in the house and a humidifier. Our home is normally around 33-37% humidity. With the humidifier, the bedroom was between 43-55% humidity. I have been to my primary care doctor who suggested increased allergy shots. I have been to my allergist who said it was not allergies but suggested I try a humidifier and Nexium for acid reflux. Neither the humidifier nor the Nexium worked.

I have an appointment scheduled with an ENT on Tuesday.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I would like to help pinpoint the issue before I see the ENT to help in coming up with a solution. My throat is not terribly sore, but it is an annoyance waking up with a sore throat each morning.

Maybe you have apnea. I used to wake up with dry/sore throat when I would snore badly.

It is possible. I very rarely snored in my sleep previously (according to my wife). However, it could be possible that I started snoring in the past few months.

Try Breath Right strips on your nose. Another simple thing to try which some sleep docs suggest is trying to sleep with your mouth taped. Try while you are awake first which helps alleviate the panic issue. It helps reposition your tongue. Also if you have enlarged tonsils and adenoids this can contribute.

Sometimes when the ceiling fan is on really high it gives me a sore throat. Not entirely sure why.

Acid reflux is the most likely explanation. Keep taking the Nexium and try sleeping while propped up at a 45 degree angle. You may need to see a GI doc.

Thanks for the added responses guys. ENT did a nose scope and didn't see anything. Had me on a series of meds over the next 6 days where I take 6, 5, 4 etc each day. I'll have to try the nasal strips as well.

So far, I still have not noticed an improvement. Is it possible that the nexium would take longer than a two week stretch to clear up the silent reflux( if that is tge problem)? I may also look into an air purifier as well

Well, this problem has continued to persist as the soft pallet of my mouth continues to be sore every morning.

The doctor currently has me on a 2 month dosage of Prilosec (I took 2 pills a day for the first week and have just finished my second week taking 1 pill a day). So far, there has been no reduction in the issue.

I am still trying to think through in my mind what the issue could be. I have been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and have been on Lialda (1 pill a day) (previously Asacol) for a little over two years now. Would a B12 vitamin deficiency caused by UC cause recurring soft pallet soreness (which only exists in the morning)? Could my body have developed an intolerance of Lialda over time? Should I request my doctor do a blood test to ensure that there is nothing abnormal in the blood tests?

As an additional side note, I have been to my primary care physician, my allergist, and an ENT. Would it be advisable to see any other specialists?
