Does it really matter as long as you are exercising and using it? I ride a road bike but lately it is too dang hot to ride as I have to ride in the late afternoon. Can't ride in the morning due to work hours which sucks. Thoughts on either?

btw, don't buy an exercise bike. buy a trainer that you put your own bike on. cheaper and less space taken up - plus you continue to ride your bike and dont get soft on an exercise bike

i stick to a spin bike when i have to ride indoors. You can work harder on an upright, as you can't do any standing climbing on a recumbent. Not going to get as much power on the seated version.

Wouldn't that make recumbent better? Your legs have to do all the work instead of letting your weight do some of the work.

I'm no cyclist but I don't think you are supposed to "let your weight do the work" when you get up to climb or sprint. If you keep your hips still and use your legs you are just able to put a lot more force into the pedal with your legs.

At my age, if I absolutely don't have to be out in 104 degrees (like it was yesterday),I'm not. That sun was BRUTAL. I have lower back problems right now too so a recumbent exercise might be the way to go.

How the hell do you think your weight gets high enough to push the pedal down? Magic?

I agree with the article posted above, but I'm a firm believer in staying seated as much as absolutely possible. Rocking the bike is wasted energy. Your most efficient power transfer is when you are in the saddle.

If you really want to ride indoors and get better and more efficient on the bike, buy rollers.
