I was wondering what is the best milk to put in my shakes in the morning? Mixing it with some protein mix (Vanilla, Chocolate, etc)...nothing too crazy. Just that stuff from GNC. Maybe make a smoothie out of it, throw in some blueberries or something.

I have kids, and we all just drink "Reduced Fat" milk. Time for a change?

We drink almond and/or almond coconut milk (us and kids) and really like it.

I like HEB Mootopia. Less sugar, more protein. They have a fat free and 2%. I do 2% because I like the taste better.

I drink whole milk right now. I switched to skim for a while, but switched back since I'm no longer really afraid of the fat calories like I used to be. I know it's saturated fat from hormone injected cows, but if I wasn't getting it from milk I'd probably be getting it from the girl scout cookies I have staring at me right now.

Kroger lactose free Carbmaster milk.

I don't know what's in it, or if its even milk, but it works well for my morning smoothie & coffee and it has 3g/3g/11g carbs/sugar/protein instead of the 13g/12g/8g carbs/sugar/protein that used to be in my 1% milk.

"8 servings" per carton means 80 grams less of carbs and sugar and 16 more grams of protein per carton.

It is about $1 more per carton, but $1-2/week is nothing

I've tried Almond, Soy, and Rice milk and hated it all. Almost undrinkable for me.

OP, what do you mean by "healthy?"

Regular ol whole milk is very healthy.

Do you mean low calorie milk?

Low sugar milk?

Low carb milk?

Low fat milk?

Combination?

Almond milk is good. I don't like it by itself, but it's okay if it's mixed with something. I'm a big fan of organic whole milk myself. More fat calories, sure. I'm more concerned with limiting my sugar intake though, and 2%/1%/skim milk is typically augmented with sugar to replace the flavor loss that occurs when the fat is stripped out of it.

Whole, raw milk or whole milk.

I drink light soy milk or almond milk when I'm eating cereal or oatmeal. If I weren't lactose intolerant I'd still be using cow's milk though.

Not sure how it would be in a smoothie or protein shake though. I mix protein shakes using Powerade.

Suprised to see so many drinking regular whole milk. Maybe I'll just stick with that. I know the kids will like that.

How much milk do you people drink? I like milk and probably go through 2 gallons or so a week.

You go through 2 gallons a week by yourself?! Dang. I like milk but don't drink much anymore. Probably should since my vitamin D is low.

I also use light vanilla soy in my oatmeal which is amazing. I'd think it would be good in smoothies as well providing a little sweetness but I've never tried it.

Have you compared nutrition labels? There might be one more gram of sugar in a serving of skim vs a serving of whole. Hardly anything to write home about.

Sh*t, we go through 5-6 gallons a week. Whole organic milk only anything else is water or flavoring for coffee.

Whole milk. Use 10oz/day for my breakfast/protein shake. I was using skim + a Tbs of peanut butter but realized I might as well get those fat calories from whole milk (and without the hydrogenated oils).

They don't really add sugar to milk. It just has more per unit of volume and this shows up in the content label.

If milk was free and I had it on tap at my house I would probably drink about 6 gallons a week. As it is I buy two gallons at the grocery store when I go on Sunday but I usually have to grab one more before I hit Thursday. I've stopped checking the expiration dates because it will be in my house two days tops. 1% or skim because I am pretty sure that if I drank whole or 2% I would turn into a fatty.

I support whole milk on tap right next to my beer taps. Closest I ever got to that was at Sbisa.

Im an adult male with the enzymatic capability of breaking down milk since there was never an extended stretch where I gave it up. So I guess that means we're still looking for the best milk commercially available. Quit with the pseudoscience, it wasn't asked for in the OP.

Personally I've kept using HEB whole after I try an organic type every now and again. I haven't seen any long term or physical benefits so far and thats a lot of money for something I cant see or feel.

I put 8 ounces of goats milk and then top off the shaker cup with almond milk. I figure they aren't injecting hormones in goats and while it cost more, for me it worth the piece of mind.

Any opinions on using Coconut Milk (the non-sweetened, non-sugar added kind)?

Heard it is supposed to do wonders if you drink 6-8oz after a workout. It probably goes well in a smoothie too.
