I have been shaving with a DE safety razor, badger hair brush and old school shaving cream from a tub for about 2 years now. Anyone else enjoy the routine of this type of shaving? I have found it to eliminate ingrown hairs and leaves my skin super soft which my loves.

If you there are those who shave this way, what equipment are you using?

Mine: Edwin Jagger DE Razor, Feather blades, and Taylor of old bond street sandlewood cream.

Love the wet shave, but...wrong board?

It's not necessarily the wrong board. You could classify it under health somewhat.

I've had some interest in going to a wet shave. I'm tired of ****ty electric razor shaves, and I couldn't handle the mach razors as they irritated the crap out of my neck and cause in-grown hairs.

I figured it fell under health. The single blade really helps with ingrown hairs. The multiblade razors lift the hair to cut which means the hair goes back under the since, hence the ingrown hairs. Give it a go, I think you will find it helpful. It takes about 2 months for the red bumps to fully heal but after that, you should be good to go.

Give this thread a try on the outdoor board. It's a common topic over there.

Merkur razor, Feather blades, badger hair brush, shave soap and I make my own pre-shave oil.

It's the only way to shave with out destroying my face with bunch of ingrown hairs and razor burn.

Started about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Using a kent bk-8 brush, merkur futur and derby blades. Typically using a soap (geo f trumpers, dr Harris, proraso or tobac) and tobac, proraso, or speick aftershave. Good stuff.

Castor Oil, olive oil and an essential oil of my choosing (my last was a citrus scent). It's mixed about 4 parts, 2 parts, 1 parts, give or take. Costs less than a 2oz bottle from Art of Shaving and makes 16oz or so.

Do y'all shave before or after your shower? I always do before to make sure I get my face good and clean afterwards. I wonder if it would be better on my skin to do it afterwards.

It is better to shave after because the hairs will softer. I have even found using a exfoliating face scrub is helpful. Nivea brand.

I shave in the shower, but I don't do the fancy shaving routine.

Like the Spurs fan, I shave in the shower to make sure my face is clean, and I use the Nivea pre shave as well.

I've also tried to extend (disposable) razor life by drying off the razor after every shave, brush/"sharpen" the blade on some denim, and store blade down in some kind of oil.

I shave before showering and use cold water. I have better luck with cold over hot water.

dollar shave club buys their razors from
dorco USA; you can buy directly from
dorco USA cheaper than dollar shave club. (hat tip to outdoors board for giving me that helpful info)

Even nice double edge blades are pretty cheap to buy. I think I got 100 feather blades for $30.

Yeah, I've got to start. Electric razors just don't get your face smooth enough and leave some behind. I used to use the Mach razors, but they were terrible about in-grown hairs around my mouth and neck.

No doubt, multiple razors pull the hair up and cause ingrown hairs. Join the club and never worry about it again.....
