Has anyone here done both the 18/55 and 18/70 plans from Pfitz?

I just recently did the 18/55 for the Chicago marathon, which led to a 30 min PR. I'm thinking about following the 18/70 for the Nashville marathon in April, and was looking for insight from those who have done the plan before.

I'll probably start the plan at the end of December, so I should be able to work up to 45 mpw or so pretty easily before I begin.

I was able to continue to swim 3x/wk and bike 2x/wk while doing the 18/55, but I'm thinking I'll have to reduce each to once a week for the 18/70. Or would it be worth it to do a run-only block of training, no swimming/cycling? After Nashville, I'll focus on triathlons for the rest of 2013 and lead into IMTX 2014, so this will probably be my last standalone marathon for a few years.

I did the 18/70 plan.

18 min pr and sub 3 hr marathon. I think it worked.

I did make some changes to it though because sometimes it was hard for me to run 12-15 miles on weekdays without splitting it up. I ended up with a few days of morning and evening running.

70 miles in a week? That is insane. I'm doing all I can to get 50 this week, which will be my highest total ever. as of right now, 27 miles down, 23 to go.

no info on that plan, but Nashville is a pretty good race.

Make sure you train on a lot of hills, they seem to never go away. Also, pray for a cool day. Lack of shade made this years tough on me so early in the year.

Also, if you haven't made hotel reservations yet, we stayed at a Best Western downtown that was walking distance (and affordable) to the start/finish and right on the course. Being a block or so away from the course let my wife sleep in and then see me run by without working too hard. There is a part late in the course where you run around a part (mile 18-19ish) that seems like it will never end.

I am going to google this plan.

Also, Nashville is a lovely town and I would move there in a heartbeat. That marathon is a bear. I thought it was because I didn't train on hills (the hill at 23 almost had me in tears), but I talked to a guy that lives there, trains there and has run it every year for 10 years and claims he never feels like he's bested it. It was also 80 degrees for the last hour. Suck.

Sills, are you still doing Nashville?

I'm trying to decide between Nashville, Flying Pig and Kentucky Derby.

Yep. Registered, flight booked, and training is in full swing.

I was originally going to do the 18/70 Pfitz plan, but was feeling real worn down in December, so I moved back to the 12/70. Training is going great so far.

If you end up signing up, let me know and we can meet up after the race. You might have to wait 30-45 minutes for me to finish though.
