Soreness on the ball of the foot - question for runners

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have a bit of a pain on the ball of my dominant foot. It doesn't really bother me on my runs, however last week at mile 18-19 my toes started to curl on this foot. I have never had that happen. I average about 45 miles a week and have been doing this for about a year now.

Is there anything I can do to limit this from happening again? Any stretches or exercises I can do?

Where is the pain? Can you pinpoint it on the bottom of the foot?

Middle of the ball the foot. It doesn't really bother me when I run. Only really notice it when I wear dress shoes.

So no one has had this problem?

Yes. I had this problem after my first marathon. It only happened on my right foot, not the left.

I run with a metatarsal pad on my insole. Took a while for the pain to subside but now it's completely gone. I still have the metatarsal pad in one of my shoes (I alternate between 2 pairs of shoes).

You could also try a foot callus pad. Anything that will add more support to that area should help with the pain.

I also filled a bottle of water, froze it and then rolled my foot with it.

Does it feel like your bone is pushing down into the ball of your foot? I'm dealing with this right now on both feet. Getting better arch support through inserts and taping my feet has helped a lot.
