1969 issue of news week had this tire advert for self sealing tires. I'm assuming they didn't work very good but interesting that the technology was being thought about back then.

I also enjoyed in 1969. You could get a 460 in. engine in your land yacht.

And you might need that pump jack in the background!

And if anyone has some knowledge on the topic, why is the Ford 460 not a popular drag racing engine?

As it turned out, the 460 wasn't particularly "deep breathing" at all. Aftermarket helps, but no factory head options actually let it breathe.

I just looked it up and see that it only had 375 hp in 1969. Lots of torque but you could get a small block with near that power

375 was still quite a bit of HP back then. My parents' '74 Caddy with a 470 produced a little more than half that and, while it took an hour to get to 60 (my wife's 2001 Accord was much faster), you could go from 60-100 without even thinking about it. Faster than any vehicle I've ever owned.

I imagine the Ford was even better.

Love seeing this and thinking how "long winded" ads seemed in the past compared to the online ads we get now adays.

I bought the magazine at a flea market because it had an interesting cover story about RFK and MLK. The tone of the writing is completely different than that of today.

My brother bought a 1969 Ford F150 back in the mid 80s. The guy who owned it before him had dropped in a 460 out of a 1977 1-ton dually that he totalled. That thing was a monster if you could get it off a start without spinning the rear tires. But even a slight bit of water on the pavement and you were just going to spin and spin. Torque for days and noisy as hell with glasspacks on it. My brother used to shut it off at the end of the street and coast it into the driveway at night so that the next door neighbor wouldn't be telling my dad what time he got home at night on the weekends.
