I have taken a few long trips now. Lots of little trips in the Houston area. Hoping after the first oil change I see a slight improvement.

I can in fact make the truck get 24 mpg under ideal conditions. Ideal seems to be completely flat and straight rd, cruise control on, and 63-67 mph.

If I drive 70+ it drops to 21ish. For some reason driving in the 50-60 mph zone the computer is calculating a similar 20 mpg ish number.

Normal city stop and go seems to range from 16-18.

FYI for those that might be looking or considering a Ram.

I have the High Output I6 in my Limited and on road trips get about 20 and my usual city driving 15-16.

I also tend to get on it a good bit, because it's fun as hell so if you drive "less fun" you'll probably get better MPG.

If you got the 33 gallon tank, does it bother you at all that at one moment you might have 560 miles until empty then drive a bit and now you have 570?

My miles until empty is constantly swinging up and down sometimes by 100 miles. Over the first 3000 miles it has steadily climbed higher and higher at the moment after filling up at the gas station as well. When I first got the truck it would indicate on a full tank something in the 400s, now it is higher. Hoping the trend continues and I realize its based on driving habits and current conditions.

As you said at the end, it's based on driving habits but I think over the trailing 50 or 100 mile average. Don't will always vary.

Once you get a few more tanks through it you'll know your typical tank max range. Don't overthink it.

I have the 33 gal. I have started in upper 400s and in the mid 500s but I only have 2500 miles on the truck.

Once I fill up though, I candidly don't look at it too much until it gets low.

I didn't get the I6 for gas mileage reasons though. The HO Hurricane is a beast and drives really well, but uses premium fuel and is only listed as 16-20 on the window sticker so I knew what I was getting.

my BMW does this. i like to put it in sport on a full tank, watch the range drop like a rock, and then put it in eco when i have a highway cruise and watch the bonus range come creeping back

Howdy, RAM 1500 Tungsten with the Hurricane HO! Love it, I am an old and an engineer, since I am bored since retirement, keep detailed mpg records. Also, I do not drive much, but I do love the Hurricane, does not take much of a push on the throttle to get a thrill. My in town mpg is rising and now at 13.57, not great but better than my Denali with the 6.2 liter, which was about 11.5.

Most places you could cruise at 63-67 the speed limit is 70 of 75. I don't know the OP, but can we start a Go Fund Me for him so he can go the speed limit.

no kidding. You couldn't pay me to drive 7-12 mph below the posted speed limit. I'd honestly be more afraid for my safety at that speed than the equivalent over in Texas lol

I didn't get the hurricane, but the V8. Gas mileage sucks, maybe 15-16 average (17-18 if mostly highway). Thank God I have a company gas card.

I remember my 2005 dodge ram quad cab. It was 2wd and had the small 4.7 v8. I would get about 14 mpg in mixed driving. Today's trucks much better fuel efficiency

Agree
Not only is it dangerous
It's also rude for the other drivers and very ineffective

Just got the Rebel last week with the Hurricane after selling my Chevy Silverado with the big V8.

Amazed how smooth and powerful the Hurricane performs over the 6.2
