okay gents...need some quick input.....I think I'm over thinking this a bit!!

'22 F150 2.7L boost. 77k miles. Was my commute truck and now my sons to HS daily driver. We do tow our little boat with it pretty regularly. Still have OEM battery in there so I know I'm on borrowed time. Was going to proactively replace it.

I was basically going to either get the Everstart from wally world or the duralast from autozone. I like that its a chain store so if it goes bad it's easy to replace almost anywhere and almost any day of the week.

The everstart is $90 cheaper than the duralast....same specs...same 4 year warranty.

Any reason I shouldn't do just get the everstart and be done with it??

Surprisingly, I'm still on the OEM battery in my 2020 F150. But also know I'm on borrowed time.

I went through this decision last week and almost went for the Walmart ever start but saw that my Costco interstate battery I was replacing was from 2020. Even though Costco battery warranties are now prorated, the $120 cost was a lot less so I went for it

I made sure to change it in the parking lot in true Walmart/vatozone fashion

My OEM battery lasted 7 years. Once they hit a certain age (voltage) the auto-start function will stop trying to activate. For that reason alone, I drove that mf'er til the battery was deader than a door nail. Made it almost 2 years.

taking that option a step further...I see they've got an interstate battery at same price as walmart but only 3 years warranty.
do you guys know if the person taking it in for warranty MUST be the member? my wife is the member. Son plans on going off to college. So even if the town he ends up in has a costco, would they tell him sorry no help for you b/c you're not the member?

They will help you. Especially if you tell them you're the spouse or child of the member.

Costco warranty is prorated though so if you have one of those cars that eats batteries or if no Costco in town, then others are better since they replace it if bad rather than just give you a portion of the money back.

Unless you don't have an O'Reillys around, that's the way to go. They have a 3-year free replacement model (or models) that we just used the replacement guarantee for my wife's vehicle. The one I put in my F150 in the summer of 2022 was still fine in late fall of last year, when I sold the truck.

If you do use the warranty, you get one free replacement. The second battery has no guarantee, even if (as I understand it) it doesn't go the full 3 years from the first date of purchase. I need to verify that, but I think that's a one in a 500 type of deal -- if at all.

I don't recommend Interstate for trucks. All the ISs I put into Tahoes, 4Runners, and Tacomas konked out at about a year or so. Every one of them. I know my '90s Tahoe had serious electrical issues and ate batteries almost like gas, but my later one didn't have that issue and neither did the Toyota. So just because there are only 2-3 battery OEMs, I still think brand makes at least SOME difference. The IS worked fine in my wife's old Accord.

Trip. I got so many vehicles here on the ranch that I'm constantly messing with batteries seems like. Also in the boats and tractors.
I hate messing with batteries and seemed to have tried all the brands at some time or the other.
I have had my best luck of longevity with Odyssey batteries in my trucks and boats cranking batteries. Not cheap by any means but I have had good service out of them. I believe Auto Zone sells them in Texas.
They make two lines for trucks….the Extreme and the Performance lines.
Might check them out.
