Hidden tracker on truck

I know TexAgs knows stuff. I don't want to get into too much detail, but is there an "easy" way to locate a tracking device on a vehicle/truck? I've done a physical search under the truck, inside, etc. and have found nothing. A device has been put on the vehicle before and I eventually found it. I believe another one has been installed, but I guess it was hidden better this time.

The ones (doesn't look to have a brand on it) I have found in the past look like the magnetic ones made by Marcherelle. A person doesn't need a subscription for it.

I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble. I just don't like the darn thing on my truck/vehicle.

To add...I have searched for devices, phone apps, etc., but from what I read they aren't too reliable. So, my best option might be to just keep looking physically, kill it with fire, or trade it in. ;-)

TIA.

A gps tracker sends a signal so yes there should be a way to check for one on your vehicle. Some send a constant signal and some send a signal periodically, like every 15 minutes or when movement is detected. Which might make it more difficult to check for. Now what kind of signals a gps sends and what type of device you need to check for it I'm not sure.

Fsguide who is a Private Investigator and posts on the outdoors board I believe has talked about doing bug sweeps for clients.

Probably a bug sweep would be required since I can't find it by looking/physically.

Truck doesn't have a gas cap. it's a 2024.

It's a '24 Chevy 1500 RST. I looked at that port and saw nothing, but I haven't taken a picture. I doubt this person has thought about doing one of those. I'm still assuming it is one of those magnetic ones you can place on any metal part of the truck. But, I'll get a picture.

I get not wanting a tracker in general terms, but assuming it isn't a Mossad assassin tracking you, could the easier answer just be to dump this person and move on to a less crazy significant other? Seems like even if you find this tracker, they would just place another one when they discover you removed the old one? Searching for this one just seems to be a temporary solution to a long term issue.

As a productive answer, I'd check for apple airtags tucked into upholstery or inside any of the small gaps in trim and liners if this person has had access to the inside of your vehicle. There is a way to detect if an airbag is being used as a tracker in your car if you have an apple device.

Airtags talk to everyone. You'd get a "an airtag has been following you" alert

Yep, it's a pretty good system. I've gotten that noti before on my Android from family members' air tags.

Hard to answer this without pics.

I use these in all my vehicles that are older and don't have built in systems from the factory for tracking the location. They work super well as long as you change the battery when they get low. It's a cheap theft assistance tool.

Now wish I had put an AirTag in my car. It's been at the shop for over a week and will likely be there for another 1-2 weeks. I keep having visions of this happening:

I know how they work - I have them too.

But I'm not sure you understood my post.

If someone steals your vehicle, they (thief) will get notified there's an AirTag in your vehicle they just stole and that it's following them around. AirTags do that.

So yes, you can see where your vehicle went - until the thief pulls over and removes it because he knows it's there because it told him.

I completely understand.

I want them to get a notice. It took me 30 minutes to find it to change the battery and I was the one that put it in the truck. Hahaha.

They are so cheap, put more than one hidden, inside and outside the vehicle.

My thinking is this…If they get the notice, so what. They have two choices….abandon ship….or spend an hour finding it. You can also name the device "tracker 1 of 4". Even if you have one. lol.

I will find my truck before they'll find the AirTags and I'm 99% confident in that statement.

Now, they beep. So, If you are worried about it beeping, the speaker is easily defeated before it is hidden. Or wrap the AirTag in electrical tape and hiding it deep in the vehicle…they won't hear it.

All that said, this is a poor choice if you are a wait for the police to find it and do their job type of person. They will have your truck chopped before the cops get around to it.

I guess I didn't realize the airtags would talk to any device in the proximity of the vehicle.

Just an old man learning something new everyday. Nothing more to see here.

Yup, they're a bit unique like that. I guess apples way of saying "we intend to help you find things, but don't condone or promote our stuff to be used for nefarious reasons"

On July 4th weekend at lake limestone north of BCS a group of us decided to do dinner in the nearest town at a reputavle joint who was supposed to have great chicken fried steak (they did). We took two vehicles to hold us all and when we got back, after like 30 minutes our phones alarmed with "a Apple AirTag has been following you" message complete with a map of travel and time…..

We were all like "who's got a tag?" It took a few moments but the guy that owned one of the vehicles was like "oh yeah, my wife put one in my truck like a year ago".
