Anyone ever replace the entire seat in a vehicle? I'm wondering what options exist for a 2004 3/4 ton ram diesel.

I'd like more comfortable seats and to have the current seats retro fitted for heat/cool, new foam, and Katzkin is 5k. For that price I wonder if I can just buy a full replacement?

Is a salvage yard my best, err, only option?

I imagine seats up to 2009 should fit, but those didn't have cooling seats yet so you'd just be getting heat. And you'd have to re-wire the factory heat to an aftermarket switch for your truck, get power to it, etc.

I'd probably just pay the $5k to have new foam, perforated covers, and heated/cooled on the existing seats.

I saw on one of the tv shows where they used a steamer to rehabilitate the foam in an older truck. Maybe that would be a cheaper option, if it is legit and someone does it. Won't help with the rest, but might save a buck.

I too am looking for seat options for a third gen ('06). Someone has already changed my seats - I'm told they are '05 seats, but I'm not certain because I am not well versed enough in the different year models to know the difference for certain. The abandoned wiring hanrness complete with paperclip and airbag light on in the dash confirms it ain't all original. So when I go to price Katskinz I chicken out because I can't say with 100% certainty I am buying for the right seats. I figured by now they'd get tired of texting me, but they still do on occasion.

Fourth gen seats will fit our trucks pretty easily. I have wanted to certainly switch to a 4th gen console (which requires a bit of adapting) to get the the cupholders in the console. The engineer who situated the cupholders around the ****-it-yourself G56 lever never drank a large Diet Coke from Whataburger. We can actually put in 5th gen seats - they require adapter plates, but they aren't cheap.

I'm presuming you have a crew cab? I have a single cab and it's effectively a sport coupe because the big honking sub behind the seat prevents folding up the console. Reason for asking, I usually watch Marketplace for take-outs but I don't want to spend $2,000 for some nice seats, front and back row... when I really just need fronts.

I think though that I've decided I'm going to just replace the foam and use Katskinz. I got a second quote that was much cheaper. $3,400 with the heated/cooled motor added.

The rest of the interior is in good shape or already replaced. The ac is new and it's the 5.9 Cummins with only 200k miles on it. It should go another 300k.
