Frankly, I'm not a car guy at all, so curious to get the board's opinion on better buy between Telluride and Palisade? My wife and I are having another kid soon and need to upgrade to a 3 row SUV, and these are the two cars we have zeroed in on. Thanks for any suggestions!

I have a Telluride and love it. Between the two, it comes down to a preference on exterior looks and interior layout/shifter. I went Telluride as I prefer the boxy looks over the Palisade. To me, these two vehicles are the best value in the midsize segment. Good luck!

Above poster is spot on. Both great options.

Also, unless you absolutely need a new car, worth mentally going through how often you'd truly use the 3rd row. I know many folks step up to the 3rd row SUV, but in real terms it's only used a few times a year. Maybe that's not you, but worth a think of you haven't already.

If you're using the 3rd row every day you're gonna want to bump up to the Carnival. Ask me how I know.

Hyundai owns a large % of Kia, so they are very close to the same vehicle. There are there Palisades n my family and we love them. Great ride, well appointed, lots of cool useable technology, very comfortable.

This. And I'd add if cargo/trunk space is important as well. I compared the two and now own a Carnival. Would I have preferred a telluride for vanity reasons? Of course. But at the end of the day the carnival was (and has) going to meet our needs better now and in the future. It's actually the only minivan I would consider because it looks more like an suv than minivan. My vanity does have limits.

We have a Palisade but cross-shopped it with the Telluride. They're basically the same vehicle, cosmetic differences only. The Telluride does have a slightly larger cargo area due to the shape of the rear end. My wife preferred the look of the Palisade and I preferred the Telluride, so we compromised and got the Palisade.

The Palisade's third row is surprisingly comfortable. I'm 5'11" and have no problem getting into the third row or riding back there for short trips around town. I have a 12 year old, a 9 year old, and a 4 year old and the older two argue over who gets the whole third row to themself and who has to sit in the second row captain's chair, so it's pretty solid as far as third rows go.

Previous posters are spot on. We went with the Palisade because we valued the interior look a little more than the exterior, but they are extremely comparable on everything other than aesthetics. I have 34k on mine and have no complaints (maybe one - I wish it had wireless Android Auto/Carplay). My parents got one and had several issues that were covered under warranty in the first 8k miles, so I still don't know if the quality control is still as high as some of the other manufacturers. I couldn't find anything on the market with close to the same bang for the buck, so it might come down to how important fewer feature on a Toyota is for the same price or moving into premium territory to get something with the same features that might be slightly more reliable. Time will tell!

Forgot to mention, my wife is coming up on 75k miles on her 2021 Palisade and the only issue we've had is with the self-leveling rear shocks which were replaced under warranty at about 70k miles. Not sure about now, but at the time, they were only on the Limited and Calligraphy models and from what I've seen they seem to be problematic and expensive to replace. Fortunately, they're completely interchangeable with the standard rear shocks which are not particularly expensive. They may not be an issue anymore on the newer models. Other than that it's been fantastic.

4 year Telluride owner. Like the look better than Palisade. Been very happy with it.

Bought a '22 Telluride with 40k on it in August and have been very happy with it. We test drove the Explorer and CX-90 as well but the Telluride beat both in terms of space and each in other areas. Didn't consider the Pallisade because we didn't love the look.

A few minor quibbles (changing the rear AC settings is clunky, auto-start/stop, etc.) and an impossible to replace oil filter cap. Not sure if the oil filter cap was previously damaged, but it's plastic, kept wanting to cross-thread, and was not tight at the torque spec. Wound up replacing the housing with an aftermarket made of aluminum.

I prefer the looks of the Hyundai but they're both sharp.

I bought a 24 Telluride and had the same complaint. Within the first month I resolved this by adding an AAWireless dongle. Wireless Android Auto works great now. They have Apple CarPlay support in beta, but I don't have an iPhone to test.

I preferred the telluride look over the palisade. But went with the more utilitarian look of the pilot. Telluride looked too fancy for me.

I was actually a big fan of the Telluride and was hunting for a SX Prestige, but ended up getting a great deal on a Palisade Limited and love it.

I don't think you can really go wrong.

I agree with most and it just comes down to the exterior.

It's like choosing between the Chevy Traverse, the GMC Acadia, and the Buick Enclave.

Another Telluride owner who loves it. The third row is small...but not a big deal for smaller kids.

Wife has the Palisade Caligraphy, she loves it. It's enough for us but even that thing gets tight when traveling. We have a 1-year-old + 2 100 lb bernese mountain dogs.

Wanted to say thanks for suggestions and advice on this thread. We went and test drove both types of cars. They were very similar but decided on a palisade XRT
