Not something I want to try on my own given all the gizmos in these tanks nowadays.

Any suggestions in north DFW on a place that will do this, reasonably? And not void a warranty? Dealership, ASC certified shop, 4 wheel parts?

Depends on the vehicle. I replaced factory 25g with aftermarket 62g on 2002 GMC 2500HD diesel. Physically demanding, not technically demanding at all

All the "gizmos" were on the fuel intake/ sending unit, which simply replaced as one part

The one I'm looking at is apparently the only emissions tested approved aftermarket tank for the 7.3 Godzilla

Also, for those that have done this on the newer vehicles that are all digital clusters, does the distance to empty and gauge update or is this something I'll have to try and get fixed with FORSCAN?

I suggest you do it when both the new and old tanks are empty.

No smoking during installation since it is gas.

My understanding is fuel sender/gauge will not be an issue.

This place is in Denton as well and they've done good work for us years ago as well.

Installing an aftermarket fuel tank is pretty easy to install and not technical so really any place should be good at it.

Which one are you looking at?

I'm surprised emissions is even a concern. Maybe Ford is different, but on GM all the in/out/emission tubing and wiring goes through the sending unit.

I'm looking online and having a hard time finding a replacement tank for a gas engine Ford.

Are you replacing the factory tank, or adding an auxiliary or in-bed tank?

If replacing the factory, what brand? Titan and S&B are the big dogs, and neither shows a tank for a gas engine

Can't get auxiliary or replacement tanks for gas trucks, only diesels. No one will sell a tank rated for gasoline.

That is the only one I've found. Went down a rabbit hole on Ford boards last night.

Conflicting evidence on if FORSCAN can update the DTE measure.

It can.

I swapped tanks on my last truck and was able to update it in the IPC.

Forskin, I mean Forscan can change the dte settings. I've seen it a bunch on the 6.7 fb groups.

I should've specified, seeing issues with the 2023s and newer. From what I can find on multiple Ford forums.

I'd love to get FORSCAN for some cool changes (seatbelt chime, in particular) but man I'm afraid to screw something up.

you don't need forscan for seatbelt chime. just read the owners manual for instructions. worked fine on my F150.

ETA: if you stick with the basic configs available on the forums forscan is not a big deal. i bought the obd tool and downloaded just to get rid of the stupid double honk with key in the car but made a few other updates that i like as well.

Can attest. Follow the google doc spreadsheet. Livinitup works. Get the OBD reader in the amazon link. That one works - (2014 F250, 2017 F350, 2024 Expedition, 2021 F150) have all been done in my driveway with it.Just make sure you SAVE the car's original file BEFORE YOU MODIFY IT - then Copy the file & modify the new one, then upload.

Can't imagine there's a bunch of goodies in a gas tank other than it being mostly sealed with a filler neck & sending unit. Do it when its mostly empty. It'll be a bear getting all the remaining gas out without a little transfer pump and hose though.

Put a floor jack under the old tank before you drop all the tank straps & lower it that way without bench pressing it.

It looks like FORSCAN has made updates to where the software is much more user friendly. Like you can search for mods and make changes to values in the interface vs the old school spreadsheet way.

I've gotten some quotes from a few shops on installing. One is only charging $400 for labor so I think I'll go that route.

The instructions are daunting which include drilling new mounting holes, putting on a new canister. Cutting the fill neck hose. Lots of clamps. Plus they'll warranty their work.

Word of caution: don't try to top it off. When it clicks off, leave it be. I had two gas tanks fail within a month of each other from overfilling. Luckily they warrantied it both times.

And I don't see how overfilling does that, unless it mess up a pressure relief valve or something
