I have a 2016 Navigator that will soon need new tires (22" wheels). I'm probably getting Michelin Defenders or equivalent. Discount Tire is quoting an obscene drive-out price of over $1,500 without the road hazard insurance. Anybody know of a materially cheaper tire store in the northern Houston metro area? I don't think Tire Rack or Costco will be much different.

WTF has happened to tire prices in the past few years?! That Discount Tire quote is about 20% higher than I would have expected.

I purchased the mich defenders a couple months back for $1129.98 from Sam's. That was with all the perks for rotation and flats. It was my first time to deal with them for tires and it was pretty smooth.

I have the same vehicle and have twice in a row chosen the Bridgestone Duelers now over the Michelins. I've tried both. Duelers have been fantastic in all weather conditions and durability. And likely a little more affordable still.

We use Discount Tire (4Runner and Kicks)

I've used TireBuyer before where I stacked a 10% discount code and rebate. They ship the tires free to a local installer of your choosing.

Was about best deal I could find, but no certs. I'm not a huge believer in certs as they now tend to cost close to the price of replacing a single tire so I don't get them. To each their own though...

This. The certificates have gotten too expensive relative to the price of the tire at discount tire company.
Percentage wise they have gone up a lot.

Tire Rack is my go to here. Check in with them often for rebate deals. They make it real easy to process those.

Well I now also checked Sams in addition to Discount Tire, NTB, Tire Rack, Priority Tire and Costco. They all are about the same cost for the same tires. Anybody know of any sales coming up at one of these stores that might move the needle?

We have Bridgestone Duelers on both of our Sequoias. They're okay. Maybe a little noisier than Michelins but that could just be the difference in sound insulation between a Sequoia and a Navigator. Would likely shave $100-$200 off a set of 4.

My Chase credit card also has a promo right now for 5% cash back on entire purchase price (incl taxes) from Tire Rack.

Looks like I'm getting some news tires for my 4Runner since they also have an $80 instant rebate for Falken. Will net me ~15% savings combined.

Keep after it and you'll find a deal!

+1 for Tirerack.com. Have used them a couple of times and had the tires installed at a Discount Tire location. Looking online now, it looks like Discount has bought TireRack.com.

I even had them work me a deal because I was replacing two sets of tires. 4x BFG KO2s and 4x BFG trail terrains plus certificates for $2400 out the door (tax install everything)

You won't use this advice b/c my shopping criteria IS
avoiding a more costly accident w.body damage
so in Aggieland = horrible roads, mostly WET and beginner drivers on cell phones aka weed in the 70's distractions
I shop Tire Rack on line for WET TRACTION 5-star reviews
then maybe long life & prices last
then send them to me or a tire dealer that does spin balance and even forever align if not yet done.

Why these forums are all about first costs, ignoring long term forever costs .... sigh

Discount tire actually has free prorated road hazard. But they push the certs which are not pro-rated

Thanks, I didn't know pro-rated road hazard was included at Discount same as Costco. I normally use Discount or Tire Rack, but for my wife's vehicle I will occasionally use Costco if the price is equal or better on the tires I want, simply because I get less of an eye roll when I ask her to get them rotated on her next shopping trip.

FYI, Discount Tire recently bought out Tire Rack.

Agreed. I prefer Discount and trust them more than Costco. Regardless of who I buy from I always break the lugs loose and retorque myself at home, and adjust the pressures because they all just seem to do 32 psi regardless of what the door placards say.
