Against my advice, one of my daughters went out and bought a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Jeep had about 40,000 miles on it

She's had about two weeks and now it's throwing warning lights.

One light is for that auto engine stop (I'll probably end up replacing that auxiliary battery for her (which is a pain in the … to replace).
The other appears to be something with the two or four-wheel-drive. Light pops up down on the lower console. I'm not real familiar with jeeps at this time.

Anyway, and talking with some people if you have to replace these batteries, they're saying you need to stay with the Mopar batteries which to me doesn't make sense.

Anyone know if there's any truth to that, that you need to replace these with Mopar batteries?

2020 Wrangler Rubicon owner here.

I haven't had it happen to me but I've heard that the secondary batteries fail a lot which cause various problems.

With only 40,000 miles, all of her drivetrain issues should still be covered under warranty.
I've had the rear axle and transfer case replaced.
I've also had some other mysterious problem in the rear differential and another one in the 8-spd, automatic transmission.

When she (or you) takes it in, the dealer shouldn't even flinch because they see this crap all the time.

2020 Gladiator owner. Look at aux battery delete. I rerouted battery cables and pulled the auto start stop fuse. No more aux battery to go dead. Also installed Tazer Mini to override auto stop start and just default to always off. My guess is that you either replace aux battery or delete it and the other warning light goes off. Blue Driver ODB2 is worth buying to check your codes when something comes up. Gives you some power in knowing what the codes indicate before talking to a mechanic or diagnosing yourself. My jeep is heavily modified, feel free to ask any questions as they come up.

Also a 2020 JT owner and agree with above. That crap Aux battery will fail every 2 years and it's a PITA to get to. Delete by pulling the F42 PCR CTRL FEED (ESS) fuse and disconnecting the negative cable from the Aux to the main battery.

Alternatively, you can spend $700 and install the dual battery kit from Genesis.

The non-mechanically inclined son in law has a '20 Cherokee. He didn't take my advice on doing away with stop-start, and his died while sitting at a light in the inside lane of a 4-lane wide steer in CA. No one stopped to help him push it out of the way. It sat there for an hour waiting on a tow. Crapped out just short of two years old. He has since done whatever to do away with that bug (it's not a feature).

We stayed away from Stellantis and purchased Nissan Kicks and (Toyota) 4Runner.

Not happy about having a CVT, but she thought the Kicks was "cute" after not being to locate a Juke and we're stuck with it.

2010 and 2013 Wrangler 4 doors. Need to sell the 2010.

2013 has the ABS and traction control lights on, and I don't know why. waiting till I need an oil change to fix. 2010 is fine, just needs a battery. Don't drive it much, so I just jump it to start and it is good to go.

Fun stuff with jeeps. My toyotas just flash lights when the dealer wants them to be serviced

Chrysler product. My jeep (spare/kids car now) has been an electrical gremlin hang out since new. Start/stop feature quit working. I hate it so never fixed it.

OK, now that I'm not in the middle of multiple fire drills, a little bit more info.

Her Jeep has ~43k miles on it, so the "overall" warranty has expired. All though it wouldn't have helped in this case anyway.

Now that I've had a bit more time, I've discovered we didn't need to "...need to stay with the Mopar batteries..." (Which didn't me sense to me). Just needed to stay with an AGM battery.

We ended up having both batteries replaced as the ones in her Jeep were OEMs, so they were basically at end of life anyways (based on my recent experience with the expected life of batteries built today).
(Hated to have to pay a shop to do the work but I honestly didn't have the time while all this was gong on)

And yes, I plan on disabling the auto "engine kill at the stop sign/red light" stupidity. Believe it's just pull fuse 42 and remove one battery cable.
Yes, that probably means we wasted the money and time on replacing the aux battery, but ....

Jeep owner here and I *believe* that secondary battery also helps with remote start if you have it. At least it does on mine. I'm fortunate that mine died and only disrupted the start/stop feature and remote start which I'm ok with sacrificing. I have no interest in fighting replacing a battery under the passenger seat.
