How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bought a 2019 Tundra TRD Pro with low miles recently that I found on Autotrader listed by a private seller. It was almost exactly what I was looking for, I just had to fly down to Austin to get it and everything went smoothly. It felt like a very lucky experience. So I realize how many eyeballs the website can put on your vehicle. I now need to sell my 2013 Tacoma 4x4 DCLB. I'm wondering if I'll get a better value and experience using Autotrader now as a seller vs the other options? I'm concerned about being bombarded by scammers and dishonest people. My main question is has anyone here had personal experience selling a private vehicle through Autotrader and what was your experience like? I realize Texags is an option too I've just been watching quite a few trucks listed lately in the Classifieds and they don't seem to be getting much action. Thanks.

I've sold numerous cars via Autotrader and Facebook marketplace. I'd put it on both outlets for more eyeballs. Price is right and it will sell. It's easy to look around, look at like trucks with like mileage and price accordingly.

You most likely won't sell it for the same price as dealerships unless it's unique. Dealerships are a one stop shop where they can give you a sales tax advantage and financing. You don't have that so you need to compete by being cheaper!

One advantage you do have is if you're a one owner. People like to buy from individuals who are the original owner with lots of records of maintenance. So if that's you I would advertise that!

Be prepared for 100's of "is this still an available" messages on Facebook. Most won't respond to you, some are bots and a few are scams. Answer each one. Most will be dead ends. Look for original messages like "hey this is Dave from Fort Worth, I'd love to hear more." Stay away from "hello kind sir, this is Mike I Arlington I live. You sell car?"

My best advice is to make it the cheapest option with like vehicles and trust your senses. It will sell. You'll just have to wade through some BS and test drives.

When I was selling my old Sequoia, I put an ad on Autotrader, Nextdoor, TexAgs and Craigslist. I received quite a few legit responses from Autotrader and Nextdoor, some from TexAgs and Craigslist and I finally sold it to the very first sincere buyer from Oklahoma via Craigslist.

You just have to be patient and stand your ground/ignore the low-ballers if your car is well maintain and documented.

Good advice. I think I'm going to list it here first and then autotrader. I'm just waiting to hear back from one poster before I do. In the meantime here's a rule 1 for the new truck. 2019 TRD PRO with 12,900 miles.

I sold and bought through TRED before, which is the company Autotrader purchased and rebranded as the Autotrader Private Seller service. I liked it because it's a blend of private sale and dealer experience, you get to meet the owner and get a feel for their maintenance and general care for the vehicle but you also get a "dealer" who handles the money and paperwork. Lower price than dealer, don't have to deal with traditional dealer bull**** (they might offer their in house financing and plates might take a while, who knows), and still get the dealer services that do make life easier. Personally, I liked it both as a seller and a buyer. I think Cars.com has some similar type service but I see far fewer private seller listings there.

Listed in Classifieds. If no success will definitely try autotrader after reading the responses.
