But I also want something nice that I would like to drive around too. What are ya's thoughts on a 2017 Nissan Murano Platinum versus a 2017 Infiniti QX50. I know Infiniti is produced by Nissan.

Any experiences with either makes? I've driven a Ram for most of my life and wife is a Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban person. Both vehicles are similar in price and miles. Carfax says no accidents for either. Infiniti had two owners (one was a lease) and Nissan Murano was a one owner.

Anything else I should consider?

I sort of narrowed down to 2016+, less than 120k miles, up to $16,000. Wife doesn't want the kid in a sedan really.

I assume maintenance (oil, tires) on the Infiniti would be higher than the Murano.

You should get a C7 Corvette Z06 so your kid can learn to drive stick.

This is really the only option - otherwise you might as well just buy him a used bicycle.

Muranos have had a lot of problems. I would avoid. If wanting a small SUV, stick with a CR-V, RAV4 or Mazda CX5.

Of those 2 I would go with the Infiniti but I am curious why those 2 vehicles would be the same price if they are same model year and mileage. Does the Infiniti have a clean title? Any Accidents? Rental history?

I don't know enough about Nissans to comment, I've heard good and bad on problems.

All of my nieces have been getting used 2016 or so 4runners. Seem to be happy with them.

My concern with the SUVS for a young man going to college is the roll over potential. I had a T-Bird in the 90's, and pretty sure I would have flipped it a few times if it wasn't so low and heavy.

Aren't those the years with the CVT issues?

No accidents on the Infiniti. Wasn't a rental. Two owners, 1st owner was personal lease.

Infiniti is few hundred more but with ~2000 less miles.

Autotrader says Good Price for Infiniti and Great Price for Murano. It may be the package difference. Murano is Platinum edition (top level). Idk

That's what I'm reading, yes. Unfortunate. I did see "transmission serviced" at 75,000 miles. Sent then sales guy a message about it since it was done at same dealership it's being sold at.

Another prospect is 2015 Acura RDX 88,600 miles for $15k. No accidents, one owner.

Ah, I guess I thought even the low Infiniti trim might be near top Murano trim. The options and trim almost certainly account for price given the clean history on Infiniti, or Infiniti's just crazy depreciate more than I realized.

I personally would 100% go for an RDX with that 3.5L and old school 6 speed auto, I also just prefer the driving feel of a Honda/Acura vs Nissan/Infiniti

Either the infiniti or Acura seem preferable to the murano.

I've owned both nissan and infiniti over the years and have had much better experiences with infiniti. The fit and finish is better and it attracts a different kind of owner as original purchaser, so seems more likely to have been taken care of. They're not perfect, but good - especially for the moneym

Call your car insurance agent for a quick premium comparison... My niece is in a small late model Acura which was tagged as a luxury car, the rates were very high as compared to a Nissan...

I did. It was a $20 difference. Well, that's with the Infiniti, I assume Acura would be same class within insurance.

I think Murano is out. Sucks, bc I really liked the style and color of that one.

Infiniti QX50 didn't impress me much when I drove it. Felt like driving a car. Might as well look at Q50 s or something.

Leaning towards RDX.

Thanks for the input people.

Technically all of those options are just bloated cars. I don't think I would be comfortable buying a used CVT vehicle, and my wife drives a 2018 Pathfinder. Just too many question marks about service history, and I just don't see the typical Nissan owner paying $250+ every 4-5 years to get the CVT fluid serviced at the dealer.

What is with everyone around here wanting to get their teens vehicles that they too want to drive? Been several threads with a similar theme lately, be it SUV's, the prior mentioned corvette, etc. When I was 16, I drove a $7k truck that probably stunk like sweaty football clothes, had manual everything. And it was for me, even though I didn't pay for it. My folks had zero desire to drive a teenagers car, and I had zero interest letting them drive it. Obviously it was theirs and they could do whatever they want, but I don't think my dad ever set foot in that truck again after we went to buy it.

Agreed. We had a Rav4 and it was a great vehicle.

Nissan isn't really Japanese anymore

Since the partnership with Renault, French govt is involved with Nissan... Does french make anything good?

How's that plane against F-22?

It scored one of the only (combat simulated) kills against an F-22. Granted it was in a war game and the F-22 had already downed 6 other Rafales, but pretty much everything pales in comparison to the Raptor.

Awesome...

I don't know. It's a topic for F-16 no pun, but I start to question France... They're like a ******** friend in the group you don't know to trust or not.

They pull us into Vietnam, instigate Nixon to drop the gold standard, behind the scene coerced Saddam to trade oil in Euros to get him hung... Steer KLM to drop Boeing and buy Airbus... and now ruin Nissan

I'm still quite a ways out with my boys but are single cab trucks still a thing? That was my first vehicle and I think it was great. Plus limits the number of dumbass kids that can pile in.

I need to buy a car for my son this Summer as he turns 16 in the Fall and I am starting to search for a Camry with 125-150k on the odometer but his friends are starting to get cars now and they are trucks and SUVs. Trucks are just too expensive for anything with the mileage I am looking for though.

I have been looking around recently and the Regular cab trucks are still available but are rare so you have a significantly reduced number of vehicles to consider if that's the option you were hoping for like myself. I miss the little 1/4 ton pickups we had back when I started driving like the Toyota pickup, Nissan Hardbody, Ford Ranger etc. I paid $900 for a Ram 50 which was essentially a Mitsubishi pickup and took it to A&M and drove it the entire time and made about a million moves with it between myself and my friends. The smallest pickups I can find are the Nissan Frontier and Ford Maverick and they are way too expensive for me to buy my son to drive as a teenager.

I ended up finding a 2016 Mazda CX9 with 100k miles. One owner, minor damage (front passenger side swipe), no airbags deployed according to Carfax. But everything looks great to the eye. Less the $14k. Well within my budget I wanted to spend.
