Owned by VAG, didn't know they owned the brand.

When Volkswagen decided to relaunch the Scout SUV brand it took a very unusual step. It created a new subsidiary company to design, build and sell vehicles targeted, almost entirely, at a single market: the United States.
Its status as a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, similar to Audi and Porsche, gives some indication of just how important this project is to VW. The revived and revamped Scout Motors will introduce its new brand of all-electric off-road-capable SUVs, kind of like Rivian.
But VW is banking on something Rivian doesn't have, a backstory. An avid fanbase in America fondly remembers Scout. Here, it was one of the pioneering SUV brands, and its original models are collectibles today.

Timing couldn't be worse. Ford is pulling the plug on a lot of their electrics and others that aren't Tesla are having a lot of trouble. Chevy seems they're still struggling to acquire batteries. Everyone wants to have a car company that's valued like a tech company, but Tesla's the only one that's been able to pull it off.

Agree on timing! Will be interesting to see how the brand and designs unfold.

Because Tesla is really a tech company that shoved their product into a self-produced package. Remember their growing pains from the early '10s?

Mustang has an avid fanbase and its original models are collectible today… and that Mach-E thing wearing the Mustang badge doesn't exactly scream "Mustang"… Not sure the Mustang fanboys are lining up trying to get their hands on one…

Best of luck to the Scout brand I guess… I'd love to see something capable and worthwhile, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Yup - such a disappointing use of the Scout brand.
