We have a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite, and recently we began experiencing an issue where the car audio, across all inputs, turns to static.
Even if sound is not presently being played from the source (such as if phone connected to Bluetooth is not broadcasting sound), strong static is present and gets louder as volume is turned up. It sounds very similar to FM radio static.
This doesn't happen every time the car is on, but seems to be correlated with how long the car is driven. In the morning, car audio typically works like normal, but then longer drive = higher likelihood of static kicking in.
We've found a number of threads online that suggest many people with this generation Pilot are dealing with a similar problem, Honda is aware, but unfortunately it doesn't sound like there is an official fix. Some people have reported success with replacing the infotainment head unit with a new or remanufactured version, but success seems to be sporadic. I would hate to pay for that if there is a low likelihood that it will actually fix the problem.
Does anyone have experience with this issue or a potential fix?
As a last resort, does anyone have a knowledgeable contact at Honda who I could call to discuss the issue and possible go forward options? If it matters, I'm in the Houston area, but happy to discuss with anyone who may be able to advise.
Thank you!
