I really try not to be the jerk that makes waves and demands when I get bad service, but I actually dropped an F bomb on a service provider today. Sooooo bad... but rather than vent on a Google review (which was truly earned...) I'll vent here...I'll try to be brief.

- Made a service appointment to address 4 issues (one of which was an oil change)
- Got a call in an hour saying it was ready for pickup. I knew there was no way it was all done, but they didn't know what I was talking about. I "reminded" them of the list I left. They said they were sorry and would take another look.
- They called back a couple hours later, also saying done. They said to make one of the repairs is going to be $1000 (and I'm quite confident it is not related to any of the problems I raised.)
- I pick up vehicle and made the follow up appointment for the leak they found, paid for service, and come to realize they still didn't even look at half of the items on the original list. I decide to let it go and deal with it when I return for other service.
- After part is in, I make new appointment and bring truck in. I get text messages saying they will update me via text, and I can ask for updates via text.
- For two days, they never texted and never replied to a text. My truck ends up in shop for two working days and a weekend.
- On Monday I call for update and they said I never authorized service, but that they did diagnose a couple of my problems, with another cost of $1500 to fix. I decline and go pick up truck.
- They apologize for their poor communication and say they waived the diagnostic fee, and hand me my keys. I say "you're comping me the $1000 repair?" They look at me clueless. I realize they didn't do the repair that they ordered the part for.
- I drop an F bomb.
- I ask to speak to manager. He shows me the communication log that has two texts asking for authorization. I show him my phone that shows I was receiving their texts, but not those two. I further ask why I needed to authorize the repair for the part they ordered and for which I brought the truck in for. He gave me a blank stare. I then show him on the screen where my two texts were received by them asking for updates, with no updates. He gives me a blank stare.
- He asks what I'd like to do. I said give me my keys back, I'll go somewhere else.

-In the end, my truck spent four days and a weekend in the shop, and the only thing that got done was an oil change.

What a mess.

And I NEVER cuss.

To top it all off... the joke is on us... our other car is same make (Nissan) and the first time we took it to this dealer service department years ago, they wrecked it on the lot. We should have known then!

Can't make this stuff up.

You forgot to tell us what dealership. But don't worry, we'll probably forget to be surprised you got crummy service from a dealer service dept.

There's got to be a good independent shop in Amarillo that will treat you right.

Unfortunately most shops are this way unless you're talking to the mechanic yourself. I asked for a simple tire rotation with my oil change at a Ford Dealership. Truck came out and there wasn't a single finger smudge on my brake dust covered wheels.

I asked the tech if they rotated the wheels. He told me he would ask the tech that was working on my truck. He comes back and says "yep! Sure did". I rub my finger on the wheel which leaves an obvious mark in the dust and ask him how anyone could change all four tires without leaving marks or cleaning the wheel entirely?

They comped my free oil change, if they even did that. For this reason I do all of my own maintenance. You just can't trust anyone.

Follow this guideline: Never go to a dealership when your car is out of warranty.

Second rule: Never go to Christian Brothers

A quick google search and reading the reviews turned up this shop in Amarillo.

Canyon recs: My go to guy is Bruce at Monkey Wrench Auto in Canyon. Crabtree Automotive seems pretty well-liked. I use Tracy's for my diesel stuff. I think Coffman's Customs is good for diesels, too. They get a crap ton of business, but they seem a little pricey, and it's a long wait time. I know and trust the family.

I've only used Carlson's Automotive in Amarillo, but was well satisfied.

+1 for Bruce at Monkey Wrench. I go to church with him and he is a great and honest guy. I do almost all of my own R&M on my vehicles but if it is something that I don't feel comfortable doing or don't have the time I take it to him.

This is becoming more common knowledge, but don't buy Nissan. Me and my wife had multiple terrible experiences with a Murano we owned.

The most notable was probably when I took it to the dealership for the recommended 90k mile service, I let them change the oil also, well they stripped the oil pan plug, apparently decided to glue/hammer it back on so I wouldn't notice and obviously didn't tell me what they did. I then pcs'd across the country (Georgia to California) After that long drive, we decided to change the oil again, take it in, tech says ... no way I'm touching that plug, if I remove it it's never going back on. He asked me when it was changed last, I tell him the dealer did it about a month ago, tech tells me they hammered it back in place and glued it on.

I call the dealership that changed the oil ... Manager tells me to pound sand and good luck proving that I didn't glue it on. I call the local dealership in California thinking maybe Nissan dealerships could work together to solve this, California dealership says... our dealership is a franchise, if the dealership in Georgia screwed you over, you need to fix it with them, click.

In the end, had to pay to replace the entire oil pan, and I won't ever buy another Nissan again.

Guideline? It should be a golden rule. It's a rule I've been following since I started tooling on my cars in the late 70. It's 2023, lets call it 2024. Anyone taking their car to a dealer, ANY DEALER, is just a plain old idiot (in my nook).

There are too many mechanics who can do a better and quicker job.
