2017 Chevy Traverse

So.... I have metal shavings in my PS fluid (At the same time, my alternator went out). My husband does most of the work on my car because he is capable of it, and it's saves us a boat load of money. We pretty much know we need to replace the pump, lines, and rack and pinion. (Right??) My car is still "driveable" right now, but my steering is really tight if I'm going less than about 10mph (feels like NO powersteering at that point).

Anyways... I guess my questions is would flushing my power steering do any good before that? Do I just need to stop driving my car until it's all replaced? While my husband can do it, he certainly can't do it as quickly as an auto shop, and likely won't have time to get around to it until the end of November/early December. While I have another vehicle I can drive (borrow), it's smaller than my car and I have 3 kids to tote around.

Thanks... :/

If replacing the fluid alone makes low speed steering better, I'd do that and dump it vs pouring money into a low quality GM product

First generation had lots of serious issues. Second generation decent reliability. Looks like your pump went bad on that one.

You can probably add an inline filter on the low pressure return line also that might help. Maybe a cooler also, if heat is an issue.
