Yea I guess I remember the flashy neon color lights from years ago, but has been quite some time since I've seen those. I guess this is the first time I've seen really bright white lights in the wheels and wheel wells.

First time I saw it was in High School so around 1990. Back then it was actual neon tubes under the car. This Led stuff is much more recent.

Buddy of mine in high school back in the 90s had a fox body with ground effects. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

i can remember around 96. a family friend of ours who was 5-6 years older than me had a Honda Accord slammed with green lights underneath. i thought that was the most bad ass car.

Probably around the time having the most jacked up, loudest, coal blowing truck became popular. In other words, when it became cool to drive around saying "look at me, I can afford to gas this thing up".

Well I had a red neon license plate frame on my 86 S-10 back in the day. Bought it from Chief Auto Parts IIRC.

Got pulled over soon after and ticketed for unauthorized use of a light color on a vehicle reserved for law enforcement.

Blew the ticket off til I received notice of a warrant for my arrest.

$75 ticket.

I first saw such a phenomena on the freeways of Houston in 1992. It seems it was always blue glow and I remember that the law was that the glow could show but the actual light source could not.

How about, "When did jacking up the front of a pickup become a thing?"

I haven't seen it in Texas yet, but have seen it in South Carolina. Driver almost always black.

I did a 20 minute speech/presentation on this in 2010 or 2011

Huh.

Thank goodness this idiocy has not infiltrated to up here in the Panhandle.

So why the heck do they do it?

Side note, in the 70s, all the drag racers had little small front tires and big tires on the back, with the back end jacked up to help acceleration on the drag strip, and to clear the fat tires in the back.

Handled like crap.

One of my friend's dad said when he was a teenager (1950s) they jacked their cars up in the front so they would look like they were taking off really fast.

Bottom line: Kids have been idiots with cars for decades

I thought the small tires on the front were their lame attempt at doing a wheelie with their car.
